The Parlier family opened a general store, a place for trading, and a post office. These places became the center of the new town. At first, small family farms grew wheat in the area. Later, people started growing grapes, raisins, and other fruits. Parlier still produces these foods today. Better ways to water crops and the arrival of the railroad helped Parlier become an important center for nearby communities.
