Pascal is a right-back player. He started his professional career in 1998 with Le Havre in France. He played over 100 games for their main team and B team. In 2003, he moved to Bastia.
In 2005, Pascal joined Premier League club Wigan Athletic. This was Wigan's first season in the top football league. He was so good that he was named in the Premier League Team of the Year for that season. After a great year, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
He played two seasons with Tottenham. Later, he joined Sunderland, another Premier League club. He briefly returned to Tottenham in 2009. In the summer of 2009, he signed with Blackburn Rovers. He stayed there until 2011.
After Blackburn, he played for Queens Park Rangers and Doncaster Rovers. He then played for smaller clubs like Market Drayton Town and Carlisle United. He retired after a short time with AC Arles-Avignon. However, he came out of retirement in 2017. He played for non-league teams Washington and Ashton Town.

France lost the final to Italy in a penalty shoot-out. His only game for France was a warm-up match against Denmark.
In October 2023, Pascal became the manager of Skelmersdale United. In January 2024, he also registered as a player for the team. He left his managing role on May 4, 2024, after Skelmersdale United was moved to a lower league.

Pascal's Club Journey
Starting His Football Career
Pascal Chimbonda was born in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe. He started playing football at Le Havre in France in 1999. His first game was on April 29, 2000, against Strasbourg. He played for Le Havre for four years. When Le Havre moved to a lower league, Ligue 2, he joined Bastia.
While at Bastia, Pascal faced some challenges with fans. This might have made him want to leave the club. After Bastia also moved to a lower league in July 2005, he left. He turned down an offer from Marseille. Instead, he moved to Wigan Athletic for £500,000. He signed a three-year contract. Pascal said he was "ready for a new challenge" and wanted to "test myself against the best players in the world."
Playing for Wigan Athletic
When Pascal joined Wigan Athletic, he became one of their best players. It was Wigan's first season in the Premier League. He played 44 games for the club in all competitions. He played in almost every game of the 2005–06 Premier League season. He scored two goals for Wigan that season. Both goals were in league games against Fulham and Portsmouth.
After a very successful first season, Pascal was chosen for the PFA Team of the Year. This meant he was voted the best right-back in the Premier League for the 2005–06 season. He also played in the 2006 Football League Cup Final for Wigan.
Pascal was a popular player and other clubs wanted to sign him. On the last day of the 2005–06 season, he asked to leave Wigan. This happened after Wigan lost 4–2 to Arsenal. Wigan's management was not happy. They set a very high price for him. They even said he could "play in the reserves" if no club bought him.
Tottenham Hotspur offered £2 million, then £3 million for him. But Wigan wanted £6 million. Pascal hoped to move to Tottenham. He said that "moving to Tottenham will help me take the next step forward." He called Wigan a "stepping stone" in his career.
He played his last game for Wigan on August 26, 2006. He came on as a substitute in a win against Reading. He finally joined Tottenham on August 31, 2006, after many talks.
Time at Tottenham Hotspur
On August 31, 2006, Wigan Athletic accepted an offer of £4.5 million from Tottenham Hotspur. Pascal's transfer was completed just before midnight. He played his first game for Tottenham on September 9, 2006, against Manchester United.
Pascal played in a 2–1 win against Chelsea. He continued playing even after hurting his knee early in the game. Tottenham manager Martin Jol praised Pascal for his spirit. On January 14, 2007, Pascal was involved in an incident during a match against Newcastle United. He slapped Nicky Butt with his glove, which caused a small fight between the teams.
He scored his first goal for Tottenham on January 20, 2007. It was the equalizing goal in a 1–1 draw with Fulham. Pascal also started for Tottenham in the 2008 Football League Cup Final, which they won against Chelsea. On March 12, 2008, he missed an important penalty kick in a shoot-out against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Cup. Tottenham was knocked out of the competition.
Playing for Sunderland
On July 26, 2008, Pascal Chimbonda signed with Sunderland. He joined his former teammates Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque there.
Back to Tottenham Hotspur
On January 26, 2009, Pascal had a medical check-up at Tottenham Hotspur. He was planning to return to White Hart Lane. The deal was finished the next day. Sunderland's manager did not say how much the fee was. It was thought to be around £3 million, which was what Sunderland paid for him. His second first game for Tottenham was on January 31, 2009. It was a 3–2 loss against Bolton Wanderers. He came on as a substitute and helped set up a goal. He could not play in the 2009 Football League Cup Final because he had already played in the cup for Sunderland. During this second time at Tottenham, he played in 5 games.
Time at Blackburn Rovers
On August 27, 2009, Pascal joined Blackburn Rovers. He signed a two-year contract. The fee was not announced, but it was believed to be around £2.5 million. He played his first game for Blackburn on August 29, in a 0–0 draw against West Ham United. On October 18, 2009, Pascal scored his first goal for Blackburn. It was in the East Lancashire derby against Burnley, which Blackburn won 3–2. That season, he played 29 games and scored one goal. In January 2011, Blackburn Rovers ended Pascal's contract.
Queens Park Rangers and Doncaster Rovers
On January 21, 2011, Pascal signed a six-month contract with Queens Park Rangers. He reportedly took a big pay cut to join them. He played his first game for Queens Park Rangers against Nottingham Forest. On April 21, 2011, it was announced that Pascal would leave Queens Park Rangers. The manager said the club would not offer him a longer contract.
On September 28, 2011, Pascal signed a short-term deal with Doncaster Rovers. This was his sixth English club. He played his first game on October 18 against Blackpool. After five games, he got an injury that kept him out for the rest of 2011. On December 29, Pascal signed a new six-month contract to stay until the end of the season.
Later Career and Retirement
After leaving Doncaster Rovers in 2012, Pascal did not play for a year. A move to Chicago Fire did not happen. In July 2013, Pascal started training with a smaller club, Market Drayton Town. He even played in a friendly game for them. He also tried out for Tranmere Rovers. When he didn't get a deal with Tranmere, he went back to Market Drayton. He said he would play for free.
On October 18, 2013, Pascal signed a three-month contract with Carlisle United. On October 1, 2014, he signed with French club AC Arles-Avignon. He was released in February 2015 after playing four games. Pascal then retired from playing football.
However, on October 5, 2017, Pascal came out of retirement. He signed with a non-league team called Washington. In January 2019, he signed a one-month contract with Ashton Town. He played four games for them before leaving in March.

Playing for Guadeloupe
In 2003, Pascal played three games for the Guadeloupe in the qualifiers for the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In 2012, he played for Guadeloupe again. This was during the qualifiers for the 2012 Caribbean Cup. He played in games against Martinique, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic.
Playing for France
Even though he played for Guadeloupe, Pascal was chosen for the France squad for the 2006 World Cup. This was because of his strong performances for Wigan in the Premier League. He made his debut for France in a warm-up game on May 31, 2006. He came on briefly in the final minutes of a 2–0 win against Denmark. Pascal did not play in any games during the 2006 World Cup. The game against Denmark was his only appearance for the French national team.
Pascal's Managerial Role
In October 2023, Pascal Chimbonda became the manager of the non-league team Skelmersdale United. He said he wanted to be an inspiration for black managers.
