Pascal Konrad Wehrlein (born 18 October 1994) is a German and Mauritian racing driver. He currently races in Formula E for the Porsche team. Pascal is a very successful driver. He won the 2023–24 Formula E World Championship with Porsche.
Pascal grew up in Sigmaringen, Germany. He started karting when he was eight years old. He won many local championships. In 2010, he moved up to junior racing. He won his first championship in 2011 in the ADAC Formel Masters series. Then, he became runner-up in the Formula 3 Euro Series in his first year, 2012.
In 2013, Pascal started racing in DTM, a touring car series. He joined the Mücke team. By 2015, he won the DTM championship. He was only 20 years old, making him the youngest DTM champion ever!
Pascal was part of the Mercedes Junior Team from 2014. He made his Formula One debut in 2016 with the Manor team. He scored Manor's only point that season. In 2017, he moved to Sauber. He scored points for Sauber in Spain and Azerbaijan. After 2017, he left Formula One.
After another season in DTM in 2018, Pascal joined Formula E in the 2018–19 season. He first raced for Mahindra. In 2020, he moved to Porsche. He won his first Formula E race in 2022 at the 2022 Mexico City ePrix. He continued to win races in the 2022–23 season. In the 2023–24 season, Pascal won his first Formula E World Championship! He won three races and had a close fight for the title. He continues to race for Porsche in the 2024–25 season.

Pascal's Early Life and Family
Pascal Wehrlein was born in Sigmaringen, Germany. His father is German, and his mother is from Mauritius. His father, Richard, used to be a boxer. He now owns a company that makes machine parts in Ostrach.
Pascal's Junior Racing Journey
Starting with Karting
Pascal began karting in 2003. He raced only in Germany when he was young. He moved up through different karting levels. By 2009, he was in the KF2 category. He finished fifth in the ADAC Kart Masters that year.
Racing in ADAC Formel Masters
In 2010, Pascal started racing in the ADAC Formel Masters championship. He raced with the Mücke Motorsport team. He finished sixth overall that year. He won one race at Sachsenring and got on the podium three other times.
He stayed with the team for the next year. Pascal had a fantastic season in 2011. He won seven races at different tracks like Oschersleben and Nürburgring. He won the championship title that year!
Moving to Formula 3 Euro Series
In 2012, Pascal moved up to the Formula 3 Euro Series. He continued to race with Mücke Motorsport. He finished second in the championship.
Pascal's DTM Career
Pascal Wehrlein started his DTM career in 2013. He was part of the Mercedes-Benz team, Mücke Motorsport. He was only 18, making him the youngest driver in DTM history. Even though he was young, he quickly became one of the top drivers.
In his first race, he started eighth and even led for 16 laps. He scored his first points by finishing 10th twice. He finished his first season in 22nd place.
Racing with HWA Team
In 2014, Pascal switched to the HWA team. He became the youngest driver in DTM history to get a pole position. He also won a race that year. He finished 8th in the championship with 46 points. His best results were a win at Lausitz and a fifth-place finish at Norisring.
In 2015, DTM races changed to two races per weekend. This meant 18 races in total. Pascal won the championship easily because he was very consistent. He scored points in almost every race. He got on the podium five times and won two races. He was the first DTM champion to win without getting a pole position all season. He was also the youngest DTM champion ever.
Pascal returned to DTM in 2018 with Mercedes-AMG's HWA Team. He got one podium finish and ended the season in 8th place. After six seasons, Pascal and Mercedes decided to go their separate ways at the end of 2018.
Pascal's Formula One Career
In September 2014, Pascal became a reserve driver for the Mercedes F1 Team. He was also their first junior driver. He tested for both Force India and Mercedes before the season started.
Racing for Manor in 2016
On February 10, 2016, it was announced that Pascal would make his F1 debut. He joined Manor Racing. Manor got access to Mercedes's wind tunnel in return for hiring him. He chose number 94 because of his birth year. Pascal scored his and Manor's only point of the season. This happened at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix, where he finished tenth.
Racing for Sauber in 2017
On January 16, 2017, Pascal signed with Sauber. He missed the first test because of an injury from the 2017 Race of Champions. Antonio Giovinazzi replaced him for that test. Pascal was fit for the 2017 Australian Grand Prix, but he withdrew after practice. Giovinazzi raced instead. Sauber announced that Giovinazzi would also replace Pascal for the 2017 Chinese Grand Prix.
Pascal returned for the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix. He qualified 13th and finished 11th. He finished eighth in the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix. This was a great result for him. At the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix, his race ended early after a crash. He scored his second points finish in the exciting 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He finished 10th, bringing his total points to 5. Pascal often beat his teammate, Marcus Ericsson, in qualifying and races. He was the only Sauber driver to score points that season. However, Sauber announced on December 2, 2017, that Pascal would not race for them in 2018. Charles Leclerc took his place.
Ferrari Development Driver
Pascal joined Ferrari as a simulator driver for the 2019 season. He continued in this role for 2020. He then left because of his commitments as a Porsche factory driver.
Pascal's Formula E Career
Racing for Mahindra (2019–2020)
2018–19 Season
Pascal moved to Formula E for the 2018–19 season. He drove for Mahindra Racing with Jérôme d'Ambrosio. He missed the first race. His debut was at the 2019 Marrakesh ePrix. Pascal earned his first pole position in only his third race. This was at the 2019 Mexico City ePrix. He finished second in that race but got a penalty. This dropped him to sixth place. He also had the fastest qualifying time at the 2019 Paris ePrix. However, his team's cars were too light, so his time was disallowed.
2019–20 Season
On June 8, 2020, Pascal announced he was leaving the Mahindra team.
Racing for Porsche (2021–Present)
2020–21 Season

Pascal signed to drive for the Porsche Formula E team for the 2020-21 season. He replaced Neel Jani and teamed up with André Lotterer. Pascal got pole position at the Puebla ePrix. He crossed the finish line first, but he was disqualified. His team had not declared his tire set correctly.
2021–22 Season
Both drivers stayed with Porsche for the 2021-22 season. Pascal got pole position in the third race of the season. This was at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. He then won the race! This was his and Porsche's first Formula E victory. Porsche also got a 1-2 finish, with Lotterer in second. Pascal became the first black person and first person of color to win a Formula E race.
2022–23 Season
For the 2023 season, Pascal continued with Porsche. He raced alongside António Félix da Costa. His season started very well. He finished second in Mexico City. Then, he won Race 1 in Diriyah after starting ninth. He continued his success in Saudi Arabia by winning the second race. This put him in the lead of the championship.
He extended his lead with a fourth-place finish in Hyderabad. However, he crashed out of the Cape Town ePrix on the first lap. He finished in the points in all the remaining races. He got one more win in Jakarta. He and Porsche finished fourth in their championships.
2023–24: Becoming World Champion
Pascal, Porsche, and da Costa returned for the 2024 season. Pascal started strong again. He got pole position and won the first race in Mexico City. He then scored points in the next four races. He even got pole position at São Paulo.
The Misano ePrix was a mix of good and bad for Pascal. He crashed in Race 1. But in Race 2, he won on the last lap. This happened because another driver, Oliver Rowland, made an energy mistake. Pascal took his third pole of the season at Monaco. He finished fifth in that race.
After a tough Berlin weekend, Pascal finished second in the first race at Shanghai. He lost the lead on the last lap to Mitch Evans. On Sunday, a crash forced him to pit, and he finished outside the points.
Pascal gained points on the championship leader, Nick Cassidy, at Portland. He went into the final race in London 12 points behind. In a wild Saturday race, Pascal passed Evans to win. This put him in the championship lead! The next day, Pascal drove carefully. He stayed between the two Jaguar drivers, Evans and Cassidy. When Cassidy had a puncture and Evans missed his attack mode, Pascal was able to finish second. This meant he won the championship by six points over Evans!
2024–25 Season
Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa are continuing with Porsche for the 2024–25 season.
Endurance Racing Career
Debuting at Daytona and Le Mans in 2025
At the end of 2024, Pascal was chosen to race in the 2025 24 Hours of Daytona. This was his first endurance race. His team finished sixth.
Pascal also made his WEC debut at the 2025 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. He then raced in the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. He competed with Porsche Penske Motorsport alongside Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy.
