Luiz Felipe de Oliveira Nasr (born August 21, 1992) is a Brazilian racing driver. He currently races in the IMSA SportsCar Championship for Porsche. Felipe Nasr also competed in Formula One from 2015 to 2016.
In endurance racing, Nasr has won three IMSA SportsCar Championship titles. He won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2019 and the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2024.
Before Formula One, he was a test driver for Williams in 2014. He then joined Sauber as a full-time Formula One driver in 2015. After 2016, he was replaced by Pascal Wehrlein.
Since 2018, Nasr has been racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. He won the championship in his first year with Eric Curran. He won another title with Pipo Derani in 2021. In 2022, Nasr became a factory driver for Porsche.
Racing Career Highlights
Early Days in Karting
Felipe Nasr was born in Brasília, Brazil. He started karting, which is a type of racing with small, open-wheel cars, when he was just seven years old. Between 2000 and 2007, he won several karting championships in Brazil.
Formula BMW Success
In 2008, Nasr began his open-wheel racing career. He competed in the final race of the 2008 Formula BMW Americas season and earned a podium finish.
The next year, 2009, Nasr moved to the European Formula BMW championship. He had an amazing season, winning 6 races and 5 pole positions. He won the championship title by a huge 104 points.

Formula Three Championships
In 2010, Nasr joined the British Formula 3 Championship with Räikkönen Robertson Racing. He finished the season in 5th place.
The following year, 2011, Nasr signed with Carlin Motorsport. He won the British Formula 3 Championship title. He was 123 points ahead of his teammate, Kevin Magnussen. He also finished third in the 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona endurance race.
GP2 Series Journey

In 2012, Nasr moved up to the GP2 Series, a stepping stone to Formula One. He raced for DAMS and finished 10th overall. He earned four podium finishes, meaning he placed in the top three.
He continued in GP2 with Carlin in 2013 and finished 4th in the standings. In 2014, he stayed with Carlin and achieved his first GP2 win in Barcelona. He went on to win three more races that year. Nasr finished third overall in the 2014 GP2 season.
Formula One Career
In 2014, Felipe Nasr became a reserve driver for the Williams Formula One team. This meant he would practice with the team but not race.
Sauber (2015–2016)
On November 5, 2014, it was announced that Nasr would race for Sauber in 2015. In his very first race in Australia, he finished in fifth place. This was the best debut finish for a Brazilian driver in Formula One history.
He finished his first season with 27 points, placing 13th in the drivers' championship. Because of his good performance, Sauber kept Nasr for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Nasr scored Sauber's only points of the season at the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix. He finished ninth, which helped Sauber move ahead of another team, Manor, in the championship standings. This was very important for Sauber financially. However, Nasr did not find a seat for the 2017 season.
Formula E Experience
In 2019, Nasr briefly joined GEOX Dragon to race in Formula E. This is a racing series that uses only electric cars. He competed in three races but did not score any points. He later left the team due to other racing commitments.
IMSA SportsCar Championship Success
Since 2018, Nasr has been a top driver in the IMSA SportsCar Championship. This is an endurance racing series in North America. He has achieved great success here.
In his first year, 2018, he won the championship with his co-driver Eric Curran. He won another championship title in 2021 with Pipo Derani. He has won 11 races and stood on the podium 34 times in this series.
In 2019, he won the famous 12 Hours of Sebring race. In 2024, he won the prestigious 24 Hours of Daytona race while driving a Porsche 963. He is currently a factory driver for Porsche.
Personal Life
Felipe Nasr has Lebanese family roots. His grandfather moved to Brazil in the 1960s.
Outside of racing, Felipe enjoys sports, fishing, and mechanics. His favorite movies are Star Wars and James Bond films. He looks up to the legendary Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna. His favorite race track is Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
Felipe's uncle, Amir Nasr, owns a very successful racing team in South America. This team has helped many Brazilian drivers start their careers. Felipe can speak Portuguese, English, and Italian.
