Pasquale J. (Pat) D'Amuro is an American expert on terrorism. He used to work for the FBI and is now a TV analyst. During his 26-year career, he rose to a very high position in the FBI. After leaving the FBI, he continued his work in business and education.

Pat D'Amuro's Life and Career
Early Life and Education
Pat D'Amuro grew up in upstate New York. He went to Mercy College and Niagara University. From Niagara University, he earned his bachelor's degree.
Working for the FBI
D'Amuro started working for the FBI in May 1979. His work changed after the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He then started to focus on terrorist attacks.
Over the years, he helped investigate many major attacks. These included the 1998 United States embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya. He also worked on the 2000 USS Cole bombing in Aden, Yemen. Later, he investigated the terrible attacks of September 11, 2001. These attacks happened at the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Because of this work, he became a top expert on al-Qaeda.
Leading Counterterrorism Efforts
After the September 11 attacks, D'Amuro was chosen for an important job. He became the assistant director of the FBI's counterterrorism division. In this role, he led thousands of agents. He also helped create new ways for the FBI to share information. This improved how the FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Defense worked together. He also created a single, main list of suspected terrorists. This list brought together all past records into one big database.
Director of FBI New York
In August 2003, D'Amuro was promoted again. He became the director of the FBI's New York office. This is the largest and most well-known FBI office. At this time, he often gave public talks. He explained the changes that had happened at the FBI since September 11. In March 2005, he left the FBI after 26 years of service.
After the FBI
After leaving the FBI, Pat D'Amuro continued his career. He became a director at Nine Thirty Capital Management. He also became the chairman of the board for Giuliani Security & Safety. In March 2006, he joined the board of Mercy College. Since April 2008, he has also been a director at American Defense Systems.
Today, he often appears on the television network CNN. He works there as a senior analyst, sharing his knowledge.
Awards and Recognition
Pat D'Amuro has received several awards for his work. One of these is the Presidential Rank Award from the FBI. In 2004, he received an honorary doctorate in law from Mercy College. This college is in Dobbs Ferry, New York. In 2009, D'Amuro was given a Four Freedoms Award. He received it in the category of Freedom from fear.
