Paul Nicolás Aguilar Rojas (born on March 6, 1986) is a Mexican former professional football player. He played as a right-back, which is a defensive position on the right side of the field.

Aguilar played for the Mexican national team in two FIFA World Cup tournaments, in 2010 and 2014. He also helped Mexico win the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2011 and 2015. He also played in the Copa América Centenario.

Paul Aguilar's Club Career

Starting with Pachuca

Paul Aguilar began his football journey with Pachuca in 2002. He started in their second-division team, Pachuca Juniors. In 2004, he was loaned to Indios de Ciudad Juárez for two seasons. This helped him gain more experience on the field.

After returning to Pachuca in 2005, Aguilar made his first-team debut. This happened on August 6, 2006, in a league match against Cruz Azul. He played the whole game and even scored a goal. Pachuca went on to win the 2007 Clausura championship. Aguilar became a key player for the team. He also played in the FIFA Club World Cup with Pachuca in 2008 and 2010. His strong performances helped him earn a spot on Mexico's national team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. After five years with Pachuca, Aguilar moved to América in 2011.

On May 23, 2011, Paul Aguilar officially joined Club América. He made his debut for América on July 31 in a league match against Toluca. Aguilar quickly became a favorite among the club's fans. He scored his first goal for América against their big rivals, Guadalajara, in a famous match called the "Súper Clásico."

On May 26, 2013, Aguilar won his first championship with América. They defeated Cruz Azul in the Clausura final. In March 2014, he signed a new contract to stay with América until 2016. Aguilar had often said he wanted to finish his career playing for América. On May 30, he played his 100th league game for the club. He left Club América on December 2, 2020.

Time with Juárez

On July 19, 2021, Aguilar signed with FC Juárez. He played for them until 2022.

Paul Aguilar first joined the senior national team in October 2007. He was called up by coach Hugo Sánchez for a friendly match, but he did not play. In 2009, he was called up again by coach Javier Aguirre. Aguilar made his debut for Mexico on September 30, 2009, in a friendly game against Colombia. He played the entire game and scored Mexico's only goal.

In early 2010, Aguilar was chosen for friendly matches to prepare for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He scored his second goal for Mexico in his second game, a 5–0 win over Bolivia. He was then selected for the final 23-player squad for the World Cup. He started in Mexico's first game against South Africa.

Aguilar was part of the team that won the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He also played in the 2011 Copa America in Argentina. He did not play for the national team in 2012.

He returned to the national team in late 2013. This was for the World Cup playoff matches against New Zealand. Aguilar scored Mexico's first goal in a 5–1 win. Mexico won the playoff and qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Aguilar was included in the squad and started in all four of Mexico's matches at the 2014 World Cup.

During the 2015 CONCACAF Cup, Aguilar scored an amazing game-winning goal in extra time. This helped Mexico win 3–2. Later, for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, national coach Juan Carlos Osorio decided not to call up Aguilar.
