Remixing Music as "Phones"

Paul Epworth became well-known for his remixes under the name "Phones." A remix is when a producer takes an existing song and changes it to create a new version. He first gained attention for his remix of Bloc Party's song "Banquet."

He has remixed songs for many big names. These include New Order, U2, Coldplay, and Nine Inch Nails. In 2006, he released his own original music as "Phones." He later said he stopped using the "Phones" name but still remixes songs secretly.

For a short time, Paul also made music as 'Epic Man'. His first song as Epic Man was "More Is Enough." It featured the singer Plan B. This song was even in the video game Need For Speed: Pro Street.

Producing and Writing Songs

In 2004 and 2005, Paul Epworth produced many popular albums. He worked on Silent Alarm by Bloc Party and A Certain Trigger by Maxïmo Park. Both albums were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. He also helped create songs for rappers like Kano and Plan B.

In 2007, Paul started to co-write songs more often. For example, he helped write the hit song "Foundations" for Kate Nash. He also produced songs for Sam Sparro and Primal Scream. He worked again with Bloc Party on their album Intimacy.

The year 2009 was very busy for Paul. He co-wrote and produced songs for Jack Peñate's album Everything Is New. He also worked on Florence and the Machine's first album, Lungs. This included the popular song "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)". He won "Best Newcomer" at the Music Producers' Guild Awards in 2009.

Later in 2009, he worked with Plan B again on his number one album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks. He also started writing with the famous singer Adele.

In 2010, Paul won "Producer Of The Year" at both the Brit Awards and the Music Producers' Guild Awards. He also signed a solo record deal with Columbia Records.

In late 2010 and early 2011, Paul co-wrote and produced the worldwide hit song "Rolling in the Deep" for Adele. This song was on her hugely successful album 21. He also produced Future This for The Big Pink and Ceremonials for Florence and the Machine.

On February 12, 2012, Paul won four Grammy Awards. These included Producer of the Year, Album of the Year (for Adele's 21), Song of the Year, and Record of the Year (for "Rolling in the Deep").
