Peter Paul Fix (born March 13, 1901 – died October 14, 1983) was an American actor. He was famous for playing many different characters in movies and TV shows, especially in Westerns. Paul Fix had a long career, acting for 56 years from 1925 to 1981. He appeared in more than 100 movies and many television series. One of his most well-known roles was Marshal Micah Torrance in the TV show The Rifleman, where he acted alongside Chuck Connors.

Early Life and Joining the Military
Paul Fix was born on March 13, 1901, in Dobbs Ferry, New York. His father was a brewer from Germany.
When the United States joined World War I in 1917, Paul Fix decided to serve his country. He first joined the National Guard. Later, he joined the U.S. Army and then the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he even performed on stage in a play called H.M.S. Pinafore. He also worked as a hospital corpsman, helping transport American soldiers. He left the military in 1919.
Becoming a Star: Stage and Film Career
After his military service, Paul Fix began his acting career in New York. By the 1920s, he moved to Hollywood. There, he started appearing in movies and TV shows, eventually making almost 350 appearances!
Working with John Wayne
In the 1930s, Paul Fix became good friends with the famous actor John Wayne. Fix even helped Wayne with his acting. He appeared in about 27 of John Wayne's films, often playing important supporting roles.

Paul Fix acted in many early films like Lucky Star (1929) and Ladies Love Brutes (1930). He worked many times with director Frank Borzage.

- Giant (1956), where he played Elizabeth Taylor's father
In 1962, he played the judge in the well-known film To Kill a Mockingbird, starring Gregory Peck. He was also the sheriff in The Sons of Katie Elder (1965) with John Wayne and Dean Martin. In 1966, he appeared in El Dorado with Wayne and Robert Mitchum. Later, he played a rancher named Pete Maxwell in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973). Paul Fix even helped write the movie script for the John Wayne film Tall in the Saddle.

The Rifleman
His most famous TV role was Marshal Micah Torrance on the ABC Western series The Rifleman. He was a regular character on the show from 1958 to 1963.
Other TV Appearances
Paul Fix appeared in many other popular TV shows. He was in an episode of Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theatre in 1958. He also guest-starred on Western shows like The Texan and The Restless Gun.
In 1960, he played U.S. President Zachary Taylor in an episode of the NBC Western series Riverboat. He also appeared in Adventures of Superman and Northwest Passage.
Paul Fix played Dr. Mark Piper in the second pilot episode of Star Trek, called "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Later, his character was replaced by Dr. Leonard McCoy.

Personal Life and Passing Away
Paul Fix was married twice. His first wife was Frances Harvey, and they had one daughter. They divorced in 1945. He then married Beverly Pratt in 1949, and she passed away in 1979.
His daughter, Marilyn, married actor Harry Carey Jr. in 1944. They had four children together.
Paul Fix passed away in Los Angeles in 1983 at the age of 82. He is buried next to his second wife in Woodlawn Cemetery, Santa Monica.
