Peel Fell is a cool hill located right on the border between England and Scotland. It's the highest point in the huge Kielder Forest area. This makes it a really important landmark for miles around!

Because of its height and how much it stands out from the land around it, Peel Fell is known as a "Marilyn." It's a great spot for adventurers who love exploring quiet, wild places.

Exploring Peel Fell

Peel Fell stands tall at 600.3 meters (about 1,970 feet) above sea level. This makes it the highest hill in the Kielder Forest region. You won't find another hill taller than it for many miles in any direction. The only taller hills are the Cheviot Hills far to the north-east.

Where is Peel Fell Located?

This special hill sits partly in Northumberland, England, and partly in the Scottish Borders, Scotland. The very top of the hill is right on the border line! So, when you're at the summit, you're in two countries at once.

Peel Fell is found in a very quiet and remote part of the countryside. It's about three miles from the nearest main road. The area around it is covered in thick forests, which can sometimes be tricky to walk through.

What Makes Peel Fell a "Marilyn"?

A "Marilyn" is a special type of hill or mountain. To be a Marilyn, a hill must rise at least 150 meters (about 492 feet) above the land around it. This is called its "prominence." Peel Fell has enough prominence to earn this title. It means it really stands out from its surroundings.

How to Reach Peel Fell

Getting to Peel Fell is an adventure in itself! Since it's in a remote area, there are no easy roads right to the top. Most people start their journey from places like Deadwater Farm. You can also begin your hike from the village of Kielder, which is a bit further south. Be ready for a good walk through the forest!

Other Hills in Kielder Forest

The Kielder Forest area is home to many hills. Besides Peel Fell, there are two other "Marilyns" in this group. These are Larriston Fells and Sighty Crag. They are also popular spots for hikers who enjoy exploring the wild beauty of the border region.
