Peirce Seamount, also known as Pierce Seamount, is a fascinating underwater mountain. It is located deep in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. Think of it as a hidden peak that rises from the ocean floor.

What is Peirce Seamount?

Peirce Seamount is a special type of underwater mountain called a seamount. Seamounts are usually old volcanoes that are completely covered by water. They don't reach the surface to form islands.

This seamount is about 1,809 meters (5,935 feet) deep. That's almost two kilometers straight down from the ocean surface!

Where is Peirce Seamount Located?

Peirce Seamount is found in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean. It lies to the west of the Haida Gwaii islands, which are also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. These islands are part of British Columbia, Canada.

Peirce Seamount isn't alone. It sits between two other seamounts named Denson Seamount and Hodgkins Seamount.

Part of a Bigger Chain

Peirce Seamount is a member of a much larger group of underwater mountains. This group is called the Kodiak-Bowie Seamount chain. Imagine a long line of these hidden mountains stretching across the ocean floor!

This chain starts near the Aleutian Trench in the north. It then extends all the way south to Bowie Seamount. The Kodiak-Bowie Seamount chain is located in the southeastern part of the Gulf of Alaska.
