History of Pemberville Village
Pemberville was first planned out in 1854. It was named after James Pember, one of the very first people to settle there. For a while, it was also known as "The Forks."
A post office opened in Pemberville in 1866. The village officially became a town in 1876. Today, the mayor of Pemberville is Carol Bailey.
Geography and Location
Pemberville is located in Wood County, Ohio. Its exact coordinates are 41°24′41″N 83°27′31″W / 41.41139°N 83.45861°W.
The United States Census Bureau says the village covers about 1.16 square miles (3.00 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the village limits.

Arts and Culture in Pemberville
Pemberville Opera House
The Pemberville Opera House is a really old and special place. It's located on the second floor of the town hall. Built in 1891, it is the oldest opera house in Ohio that is still used today!
In 2016, some new parts were added to the building. This made it easier for everyone to get inside, especially with an elevator to reach the Opera House on the second floor. New restrooms were also added upstairs for visitors.
Pemberville Public Library
The Pemberville Public Library helps people in eastern Wood County, Ohio. It has its main office in Pemberville and smaller branches in Stony Ridge and Luckey.
In 2006, the library loaned out over 105,000 items. It also held 348 programs for people to enjoy. The library had more than 64,000 books and other items, plus 240 different magazines and newspapers.
Pemberville Free Fair
Pemberville is famous for its "Free Fair," which happens every August. It's one of the few fairs in Ohio that doesn't charge an entry fee. A fun tradition at the fair is a tug-of-war contest. It takes place in the valley between the church and the elementary school.
Notable Person from Pemberville
- Elihu H. Mason: He was part of "Andrew's Raiders" during the American Civil War. This was a famous event called the Great Locomotive Chase.
Twin Towns
Pemberville has a special connection with another town far away. It is a "twin town" with Rödinghausen in Germany. Rödinghausen is located in the district of Herford in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
