The Petorca Province (called Provincia de Petorca in Spanish) is one of the eight provinces in the central Chilean Valparaíso area. Its main city, or capital, is La Ligua.

Where is Petorca Province?

Petorca Province is the biggest province in the Valparaíso region. It covers an area of about 4,588.9 square kilometers. That's like a really large piece of land!

This province is located in the northern part of the Valparaíso region, right next to the Pacific Ocean. It shares its northern border with the Coquimbo region. To the east, it's next to the San Felipe de Aconcagua province. To the south, you'll find the Quillota province. And to the west, it meets the vast Pacific Ocean.

How Many People Live Here?

According to the last national census in 2002, about 70,610 people lived in Petorca Province. This means there were about 15.4 people living in every square kilometer.

The biggest city in the province is La Ligua. It is also the capital city. In 2002, about 17,048 people lived in La Ligua.

How is Petorca Province Managed?

Petorca is a province, which is like a big area managed by a local government. It is made up of five smaller areas called communes. The city of La Ligua is the capital of the province.

A person called a governor is in charge of running the province.
