Petr Mrázek (born February 14, 1992) is a professional ice hockey goaltender. He plays for the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL). A goaltender is the player who tries to stop the puck from going into their team's net.
The Detroit Red Wings picked him in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He played for them for the first part of his NHL career. He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Playing Career
Junior Hockey Years
Before coming to North America, Mrázek played in the Czech Republic. He played for HC Vítkovice Steel during the 2007–08 playoffs.
In his first season with the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2009–10, Mrázek had a good record. He won 12 games and had a 3.00 goals against average (GAA). This means he let in about 3 goals per game. His save percentage was .905, meaning he stopped 90.5% of shots.
In June 2010, the Detroit Red Wings chose Mrázek in the NHL Entry Draft. He was the 141st player picked overall.
On October 19, 2011, Mrázek signed a three-year contract with the Red Wings. He stayed in the OHL for the 2011–12 season. He played 50 games and had 30 wins. He also had three shutouts, which means he stopped every shot and didn't let any goals in.
After the OHL season ended, Mrázek joined the Grand Rapids Griffins. This team is connected to the Detroit Red Wings in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Professional Hockey
Detroit Red Wings
Mrázek started the 2012–13 season with the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL. This is a minor league team for the Red Wings. He won his first game 4–1. He had a great save percentage of .944 in three games.
He then moved up to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. He won 12 of his first 15 games with the Griffins. He even set a team record by winning his first six starts. On February 2, 2013, he got his first professional shutout.
Mrázek made his NHL debut with the Red Wings on February 7, 2013. He played against the St. Louis Blues. Detroit won 5–1, and Mrázek stopped 26 shots. He became only the second goalie to win his debut in the ECHL, AHL, and NHL all in the same season.
He played for the Griffins in the AHL All-Star Classic. The Griffins won the Calder Cup championship that year. Mrázek played all 24 playoff games. He had 15 wins and four shutouts.
In the 2013–14 season, Mrázek was named to the AHL Second All-Star Team. He had the second-best GAA in the AHL (2.10). He also played nine games for Detroit in the NHL. He got two shutouts in the NHL that season.
On July 1, 2014, the Red Wings signed Mrázek for another year. In the 2014–15 season, he played 29 games for the Red Wings. He had 16 wins and three shutouts. He was named the AHL Player of the Week in March 2015. He had two shutouts in a row for the Griffins.
On April 16, 2015, Mrázek played his first Stanley Cup playoffs game. He helped the Red Wings win 3–2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He got his first playoff shutout on April 21. He had another playoff shutout on April 25. He was the third rookie goalie for the Red Wings to get two shutouts in one playoff series.
Mrázek was named the Detroit Red Wings Rookie of the Year for 2014–15.
In January 2016, Mrázek was named the NHL Second Star of the Week. He had a great GAA of .67 and a save percentage of .978 that week. He was one of the top goalies in the NHL for save percentage.
On July 27, 2016, the Red Wings signed Mrázek to a two-year contract. In the 2016–17 season, his team missed the playoffs. This ended their long playoff streak.
Philadelphia Flyers
On February 19, 2018, Mrázek was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. He made his debut for the Flyers on February 22. He helped them win 2–1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Carolina Hurricanes
After the season, Mrázek became a free agent. On July 1, 2018, he signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Mrázek shared playing time with another goalie, Curtis McElhinney. On April 4, 2019, Mrázek got his 23rd win of the season. This helped the Hurricanes reach the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. He had 23 wins and a 2.39 GAA that season.
Mrázek and the Hurricanes beat the defending champions, the Washington Capitals, in the first round of the playoffs. They reached the Eastern Conference Finals. Mrázek got injured during the second round.
On July 1, 2019, Mrázek signed a new two-year contract with the Hurricanes. He had 21 wins in the 2019–20 season before the COVID-19 pandemic stopped the season.
In the 2020–21 season, Mrázek started very well. But he got a thumb injury that needed surgery. He returned on April 4, 2021, and got his third shutout of the season.
Toronto Maple Leafs

On July 28, 2021, Mrázek signed a three-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team hoped he would work well with goalie Jack Campbell. However, Mrázek had a tough time with the team. His save percentage was often low.
On March 20, 2022, the Maple Leafs placed Mrázek on waivers. He played one game for the Toronto Marlies before coming back to the main team. He then got a groin injury, which ended his season. Even with a lower save percentage, he had 12 wins because the Leafs' offense scored many goals.
Chicago Blackhawks
On July 7, 2022, the Maple Leafs traded Mrázek to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Mrázek has played for the Czech Republic in international games. He played in the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He helped his team reach the quarterfinals. He was chosen as the best goalie of the championship. He had a 2.49 GAA and a .928 save percentage. He made 52 saves in a big win against the USA.
Mrázek also played for the Czech Republic senior team. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World Championship. He played in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the 2017 IIHF World Championship. In 2024, he won a gold medal at the 2024 IIHF World Championship with Czechia.
