Philo is a small community in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is known as a census-designated place, which is a special area identified by the government for counting people. Philo is located about 6 miles northwest of Boonville, at an elevation of 331 feet. In 2020, the population of Philo was 319 people.
Philo is nestled in the beautiful Anderson Valley in western Mendocino County. It sits along Indian Creek, which flows into the Navarro River. This community is home to KZYX, a local public radio station. While there were once many timber businesses, only two small lumber mills remain today. Philo is also a very important part of the Anderson Valley wine region.

One story says that its founder, Cornelius Prather, named it after his favorite female cousin. Another story suggests he named it after his former home in Philo, Illinois.

Philo is located at the geographical coordinates 39° 3′ 57″ North, 123° 26′ 42″ West. California State Route 128 is a main road that runs through the area. If you travel southeast on this road, you'll reach Boonville in about 6 miles. If you head northwest, the road goes for about 23 miles to State Route 1 near Navarro Beach on the Pacific Ocean.
