Early Life and High School Football
Pierre Woods grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He went to Glenville High School. There, he played football for two years and was a "letterman." This means he earned a special award for playing well in a varsity sport.
He played alongside other famous football players like Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr.. Pierre was part of the very first U.S. Army All-American Bowl game in 2000. This game features the best high school football players in the country.
During his high school career, Pierre was a strong defender. He made 173 tackles and had 42 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback. He also caught passes as a tight end, scoring 13 touchdowns.
In his senior year, he was named Second-team USA Today High School All-America. This means he was one of the best high school players in the whole country. Pierre also played basketball for four years in high school.
College Football Career
After high school, Pierre Woods went to the University of Michigan. He played for the Michigan Wolverines team. In his first year, he didn't play in any games. This is called a "redshirt" year, which helps players develop more.

Professional Football Journey
Playing for the New England Patriots
After college, Pierre Woods was not chosen in the 2006 NFL draft. But the New England Patriots still signed him as an "undrafted free agent." This means he joined the team without being drafted.
In his first year, 2006, he played in eight games. He was good at "special teams tackles." Special teams are units that play during kickoffs and punts. In 2007, he played in all 16 regular-season games. He led the team with 21 special teams tackles.
In 2008, he made his first start in a game against the New York Jets. He made nine tackles in that game. However, he got an arm injury later that year. He was placed on "injured reserve," meaning he couldn't play for the rest of the season.
