Geography of Piggott
Piggott is in the eastern part of Clay County. It sits right on the eastern edge of a unique landform called Crowley's Ridge. U.S. Route 62 goes through the city. This highway travels west about 25 miles to Corning. It also goes northeast about 45 miles to Interstate 55 near New Madrid, Missouri.
The northern end of U.S. Route 49 is also in Piggott. This highway heads southwest about 32 miles to Paragould. It continues for about 516 miles all the way to Gulfport, Mississippi.
The United States Census Bureau says that Piggott covers a total area of about 5.42 square miles (14.03 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 5.36 square miles (13.89 square kilometers), is land. Only a small part, about 0.05 square miles (0.14 square kilometers), is water.
The land in Piggott is mostly flat on the eastern side. However, the more developed western part of the city is on Crowley’s Ridge. This makes it feel like you are coming down from a small hill to a flat area. Crowley's Ridge is a natural feature. It was formed over thousands of years by wind-blown periglacial loess (a type of fine soil). Seismic activity in the area might have also helped shape it.
