Pilot Rock is a small city located in Umatilla County, Oregon, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,328 people lived there. It is part of the larger Pendleton–Hermiston area.
The city's main jobs are in timber (cutting down trees for wood) and agriculture (farming). Pilot Rock is home to a lumber and pole mill run by Boise Cascade and Kinzua Lumber. It also has Pilot Rock High School. The city gets its name from a large rock formation made of basalt. This rock was a very important landmark for pioneers traveling on the old Oregon Trail, helping them find their way.
