What You Can See from the Top

The very top of Pine Mountain is mostly open, without many trees. You'll see cool rock formations called outcrops there. From the summit, you get amazing views! You can see Lake Allatoona, the city of Cartersville, and even parts of Atlanta on a clear day.

How Tall is Pine Mountain?

At 1,562 feet (476 meters), Pine Mountain is one of the tallest mountains in Bartow County. It's the third tallest if you count mountains that rise at least 100 feet (30 meters) above the land around them. A long time ago, a businessman and politician named Mark Anthony Cooper owned a lot of the land around this mountain.

Hiking Adventures

If you love hiking, Pine Mountain has two main trails for you to explore: the East Loop and the West Loop.

Finding the Trails

  • The East Loop trail starts near a road called State Route 20 spur.
  • The West Loop trail is close to I-75 at Exit 288.

These two trails are part of the Pine Mountain Recreational Area. They even connect to other trails that lead to a historic spot called Cooper's Furnace, which is near the Allatoona Dam.

Challenge Yourself on the Trails

Both the East and West Loop trails climb over 600 feet (183 meters) in about a mile. This means they go up quite a bit! They have many switchbacks, which are zig-zag turns that help you climb the mountain more easily. It's a great way to get some exercise and enjoy nature!
