The Heroes of Olympus facts for kids

The Heroes of Olympus is an exciting series of five adventure books by American author Rick Riordan. It continues the story from the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. This series is also followed by The Trials of Apollo. The stories are all about Greek and Roman mythology.

In these books, seven young demigod heroes work together. A demigod is a child born from a god and a human. Their big mission is to stop the powerful earth goddess Gaea from waking up. The first book came out in 2010, and the last one was released in 2014.

The series starts with The Lost Hero. Then come The Son of Neptune and The Mark of Athena. Many characters you might know from the Percy Jackson books return. These include Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Chiron. But there are also new heroes joining the adventure. Some of these new friends are Leo Valdez, Jason Grace, and Piper McLean.

Rick Riordan also wrote a special extra book. It is called The Demigod Diaries. This book was released in 2012.

Meet the Main Characters

The series follows a group of seven important demigods. They each have unique powers and come from different godly parents.

• Percy Jackson: He is a seventeen-year-old Greek demigod. Percy is the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea.
• Annabeth Chase: She is also seventeen and a Greek demigod. Annabeth is the smart daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom.
• Piper McLean: Piper is a fifteen-year-old Greek demigod. She is the daughter of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Piper can use "charmspeak." This means she can convince people to do things with her voice.
• Leo Valdez: He is a fifteen-year-old Greek demigod. Leo is the son of Hephaestus, the god of fire and crafts. He has the amazing power to control and create fire.
• Jason Grace: Jason is a sixteen-year-old Roman demigod. He is the son of Jupiter, the Roman king of the gods. In The Lost Hero, we learn he is the brother of Thalia Grace.
• Frank Zhang: He is a sixteen-year-old Roman demigod. Frank is the son of Mars, the Roman god of war. He can also change his shape into different animals.
• Hazel Levesque: Hazel is a thirteen-year-old Roman demigod. She is the daughter of Pluto, the Roman god of the underworld. Hazel can control valuable metals and jewels.
• Gleeson Hedge: Coach Hedge is a satyr. Satyrs are half-human, half-goat creatures. He helps guide and protect the seven demigods on their dangerous journey.
