Plainville's History
Plainville officially became a city in 1903. This process is called "incorporation." It means the town was given legal rights to govern itself. The city's name comes from a place called Plainville, Connecticut.
Plainville's Geography
Plainville is found in the southwestern part of Gordon County. Its exact location is 34°24′15″N 85°2′15″W / 34.40417°N 85.03750°W. The southern edge of the city touches the border of Floyd County.
Nearby Roads and Towns
Georgia State Highway 53 is about 1.5 miles east of Plainville. This highway can take you northeast about 8 miles to Calhoun. Calhoun is the main city and county seat of Gordon County. If you go southwest on Highway 53, you will reach Rome, which is about 14 miles away.

Plainville covers an area of about 1.87 square kilometers (or 0.72 square miles). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.
Natural Features
Plainville is located in a part of northwest Georgia known as the Ridge-and-Valley region. This area has many hills and valleys. The city is also about 3 miles east of a bend in the Oostanaula River. This specific area is sometimes called "the Bend."
