Prasoon Joshi (born September 16, 1971) is a famous Indian poet, writer, and lyricist. He also works as a communication specialist and marketer. He is the CEO of McCann Worldgroup India, which is a big global marketing company. Since August 11, 2017, he has been the head of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This board helps decide what movies can be shown in India.
Prasoon Joshi has won many awards for his work. He received the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award three times. These were in 2007, 2008, and 2014 for the Hindi movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. He also won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics twice. This was for his songs in Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Chittagong (2013). In 2015, the Indian government gave him the Padma Shri award. This was to honor his important contributions to arts, literature, and advertising.

Early Life and Education
Prasoon Joshi grew up in Uttarakhand, a state in northern India. His father, D.K. Joshi, worked in the state's education department. Living in different places like Almora and Nainital helped Prasoon understand Indian culture deeply. This understanding later became a key part of his writing and advertising work.
His mother, Sushma Joshi, was a political science teacher. She also performed on All India Radio for over 30 years. Both of his parents were trained classical singers. This meant Prasoon's home life was full of learning, art, and music.
He started writing at a young age. When he was 17, he published his first book, Main Aur Woh. He later wrote two more books, Dard So Raha Hai and Samadhan. His book Sunshine Lanes, a collection of his songs, was released in 2013. In 2016, he published Thinking Aloud, a book of essays about modern India.
Prasoon studied Physics for his bachelor's and master's degrees. Then, he decided to get an MBA from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. During his MBA, he realized he could combine his love for art and business. This led him to choose a career in advertising.
Advertising Career
Prasoon Joshi began his career at Ogilvy & Mather in Delhi. In just ten years, he became the Executive Creative Director for their Mumbai office. In 2002, he joined McCann-Erickson as Executive Vice-President. By 2006, he was the Regional Creative Director for South and Southeast Asia. In December 2006, he became the Executive Chairman for McCann Worldgroup India.
Joshi is famous for creating memorable advertisements for many big brands. These include Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, and L'Oréal. He also worked with Indian brands like Britannia Industries and Reliance Industries. One of his most famous campaigns was "Thanda matlab Coca-Cola" with actor Aamir Khan.
His Happydent chewing gum TV commercial was highly praised. It was even chosen as one of the 20 best ads of the 21st century.
Prasoon Joshi also used his skills for important social campaigns in India. He worked on campaigns for Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India), education, and polio eradication. He also helped with campaigns against malnutrition and for women's rights. His contributions were recognized in the 2014 and 2019 elections.
Film Career
Prasoon Joshi started writing songs for films with Lajja in 2001. After that, he wrote for many successful Bollywood movies. These include Hum Tum, Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, and Taare Zameen Par. With Rang De Basanti (2006), he also started writing movie dialogues.
He won the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for "Chand Sifarish" from Fanaa in 2007. He won it again for "Maa" from Taare Zameen Par in 2008. He also won the National Award twice for his lyrics. The first was for Taare Zameen Par and the second in 2013 for Chittagong.
He also wrote the script for the award-winning 2014 film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. As the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), he has worked to balance the needs of filmmakers with what society expects. He has also helped make the CBFC's work more digital.
Global and National Recognition
In 2008, Prasoon Joshi was invited to be the chairman of the Cannes Jury. This is a very important role in the advertising world. In 2009, he was part of an exclusive jury at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. In 2006, he was named a 'Young Global Leader' by the World Economic Forum.
He was also a judge on the singing competition Dhoom Macha De in 2007. Prasoon Joshi was part of a special committee for the Commonwealth Games 2010 opening and closing ceremonies.

When Prasoon saw the film Sikandar, he was inspired. He wrote a song called "Dhoop ke sikke," which was later used in the movie.

Short Films on Malnutrition
Prasoon Joshi and Aamir Khan decided to make 50 short films about malnutrition. They were asked to do this by the Prime Minister of India. Mr. Joshi said that he and Aamir work well together because they both care deeply about their work.

Personal Life
Prasoon Joshi is married to Aparna. She works to preserve and promote Indian classical and folk music. She also helped start the India Music Summit. They have been married for over ten years and have a daughter named Aishaanya.
