Prasoon Joshi, born on September 16, 1971, is a famous Indian poet, writer, and lyricist. He also works as a communication expert and marketer. He is the CEO of McCann Worldgroup India, a big marketing company. He also leads their work in the Asia Pacific region. Since August 2017, he has been the head of the Central Board of Film Certification. This board decides which movies can be shown in India.
Prasoon has won the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award three times. He won in 2007, 2008, and again in 2014 for the Hindi movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. He has also received the National Film Award for Best Lyrics twice. These were for his work in Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Chittagong (2013). The Indian government gave him the Padma Shri award in 2015. This was for his great work in Arts, Literature, and Advertising.

Early Life and Education
Prasoon Joshi grew up in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. His father, D.K. Joshi, worked in the state's Education Service. Growing up, Prasoon lived in many places across northern India. These included Almora, Nainital, Tehri, and Delhi. This helped him understand the real feelings and culture of India. He uses this understanding in his screenplays, dialogues, lyrics, and advertisements.
His mother, Sushma Joshi, was a political science teacher. She also performed on All India Radio for over 30 years. Both his parents were trained classical singers. So, Prasoon's home life was full of learning, art, music, and culture.
He started writing at a young age. His first book, Main Aur Woh, came out when he was 17. It was like a conversation with himself. Later, he wrote two more books, Dard So Raha Hai and Samadhan. These books made him known as an author.
In 2013, his book Sunshine Lanes was released. It was a collection of his songs. His latest book, Thinking Aloud, came out in 2016. It is a collection of essays about modern India.
Prasoon first studied Physics in college. Then, he got his MBA degree from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. During his MBA, he decided to combine his love for art and business. He chose to work in advertising.
Advertising Career
Prasoon started his career at Ogilvy & Mather in Delhi. In just 10 years, he became the Executive Creative Director for their Mumbai office. In 2002, he joined McCann-Erickson as Executive Vice-President. By 2006, he was the Regional Creative Director for South and Southeast Asia. In December 2006, he became the Executive Chairman for McCann Worldgroup India. He also became the Regional Creative Director for Asia Pacific.
Joshi is famous for creating great ads for many big brands. These include Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, and L'Oréal. He also worked with Indian brands like Britannia Industries and Dabur. He created the well-known "Thanda matlab Coca-Cola" campaign with actor Aamir Khan.
His Happydent TV commercial was very popular. It was even chosen as one of the best ads of the 21st century.
Film Career
Prasoon started writing lyrics for films with Lajja in 2001. This movie was successful. Soon after, he wrote songs for Yash Chopra's Hum Tum. He then worked on many other successful Bollywood films. These include Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, and Taare Zameen Par. With Rang De Basanti (2006), he also started writing movie dialogues.
He won the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for "Chand Sifarish" from Fanaa in 2007. He won again for "Maa" from Taare Zameen Par in 2008. He has won the important National Award twice. The first was for his work in Taare Zameen Par. The second was in 2013 for the movie Chittagong.
He also wrote the script for the award-winning 2014 film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
As the head of the CBFC, he has tried to balance things. He works to make sure filmmakers and society's feelings are both respected. He has helped make the CBFC's work more digital.
Global and National Recognition
In 2008, Prasoon was asked to be the chairman of the Cannes Jury. In 2009, he was one of only 10 members on the Cannes Titanium and Integrated Jury. This is a big honor in advertising. In 2006, he was named a 'Young Global Leader' by the World Economic Forum.
In 2007, he was a judge on the popular singing show Dhoom Macha De. Joshi was also part of a special committee for the Commonwealth Games 2010 opening and closing ceremonies. He worked with famous people like Shyam Benegal and Javed Akhtar.

Once, Prasoon watched the film Sikander. He was so inspired that he wrote a song called "Dhoop ke sikke". This song was later added to the movie.

Short Films on Malnutrition
Prasoon Joshi and Aamir Khan decided to make 50 short films about malnutrition. They were asked to do this by the Prime Minister of India. Mr. Joshi said that he and Aamir work well together because they both care a lot about their work.

Personal Life
Prasoon is married to Aparna. She works to protect and promote Indian classical and folk music. She also helped start the India Music Summit. They have been married for over ten years and have a daughter named Aishaanya.
