Raynford Avery Humphrey (born January 8, 1986), known by his stage name Preme (pronounced PREEM), is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and music producer. He first gained attention in 2011 by appearing on popular songs like "Alone Again" by Alyssa Reid and "Invincible" by Hedley. These songs were very successful in Canada, reaching numbers 11 and nine on the Canadian Hot 100 chart.
Preme later signed with RCA Records and released his first collection of songs, called an extended play (EP), titled Dear Summer EP in 2014. This EP included popular tracks like "DnF" (featuring Drake and Future), "Chickens" (featuring Waka Flocka Flame), and "We Them ..." (featuring ASAP Rocky).
In 2018, he changed his stage name to Preme and started his own music label, Reps Up Entertainment, working with Columbia Records. That same year, his song "Jackie Chan" (featuring Post Malone) became a hit. A remix of this song by Tiësto and Dzeko was even more popular, becoming his first song to appear on the famous Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

Preme's Early Music Journey
Preme's family comes from Guyana. He released his very first solo song, "You Know I'm Fly," in 2008. This song became a top hit on the PunchMuch Canadian music channel. His next songs, "Money in My Pocket" (2009) and "In My Hood" (2010), were both produced by the talented T-Minus. Preme's stage name comes from the word "preemie," which is a nickname for babies born early, because he was born prematurely.
Touring with Drake
Preme had the chance to tour with famous Canadian rapper Drake on his "Away from Home Tour" across North America. Preme often performed as an opening act, getting the crowd ready for Drake. At that time, he could only perform in Canadian cities due to some legal issues that prevented him from traveling to the United States.
Big Collaborations and Chart Success
Preme was featured on Alyssa Reid's international hit song "Alone Again." This song was a big success in Canada and many European countries, even reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart. He also appeared on the Canadian band Hedley's song "Invincible," from their album Storms. "Invincible" was released in August 2011 and reached number 9 on the Canadian Hot 100.
Mixtapes and EPs
Preme released his first mixtape, The Canadian Dream, in early 2008. A mixtape is like an album but often released for free or to build buzz. His second mixtape, When It Reigns It Pours, came out in November 2010. His third mixtape was originally going to be called True Kings Don't Die, but the name was changed to Dear America. This project was later released as an EP by RCA Records on September 9, 2014. Billboard magazine reported in March 2013 that Preme was working with American rapper ASAP Rocky on the song "We Them ...", which was released before the Dear America EP. His song "Realest in the City," featuring Meek Mill and PartyNextDoor, even topped Billboard's "Emerging Artists" chart.
Preme's Life Outside Music
Preme has a son who was born in 2006.
He is very good friends with fellow Toronto rapper Drake. They have often mentioned their friendship in their songs. For example, in his mixtape's "Intro" song, Preme rapped about Drake being like a "lil' bro." Drake also mentioned Preme in his remake of Big Page's song "I'm Still Fly." Most recently, the two worked together with rapper Future on the song "DnF" from Preme's Dear America EP.
