Presnel Kimpembe (born 13 August 1995) is a French professional footballer. He plays as a centre-back (a defender) for the Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.

Early Life and Football Start

Presnel Kimpembe was born in Beaumont-sur-Oise, France. His father is from Congo, and his mother is Afro-Haitian. He was named after his mother's father.

Club Career Highlights

Presnel Kimpembe started his professional football journey with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He played his first game on 17 October 2014 against Lens. He came on as a substitute in a match that PSG won 3–1.

Champions League Debut

Kimpembe played his first UEFA Champions League game on 14 February 2017. In this important match, PSG won 4–0 against Barcelona. Kimpembe helped his team keep a "clean sheet," meaning Barcelona did not score any goals.

First Goals and Key Moments

On 12 February 2019, Kimpembe scored his first goal for PSG. It was against Manchester United at their home stadium, Old Trafford. He scored from a corner kick. However, in the next game, he accidentally touched the ball with his hand. The referee used VAR to check, and a penalty was given. PSG lost that game and were knocked out of the competition.

In July 2020, Kimpembe signed a new contract with PSG until 2024. That same year, PSG reached the final of the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League. They lost 1–0 to Bayern Munich, but Kimpembe played in the final.

He scored his second goal for PSG in January 2022. This was in a Coupe de France match against Vannes, which PSG won 4–0. He also helped set up a goal for Kylian Mbappé. A month later, in February 2022, he scored his first goal in Ligue 1 (the French league) in a big 5–1 win against Lille.

Impressive Passing and Injuries

During the 2021–22 season, Kimpembe was known for his excellent passing. He completed 95.5% of his passes. This was the highest rate among all players in the top five European leagues.

In February 2023, Kimpembe suffered a serious injury. He tore his Achilles tendon during a game against Marseille. This injury needed surgery and kept him off the field for a long time. He had just returned from another injury that had kept him out for three months. In December 2023, he signed another contract extension with PSG until 2026. He had another Achilles tendon surgery in January 2024, which meant he missed the entire 2023–24 season.

International Career with France

Kimpembe first joined the senior France squad in October 2016. This happened when another player, Eliaquim Mangala, got injured. A former French player, William Gallas, even said in 2018 that Kimpembe was the future of the French team.

World Cup Winner

Kimpembe finally played his first game for France on 27 March 2018. It was a friendly match against Russia, which France won 3–1.

In May 2018, he was chosen for the 23-man French squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. France went on to win the World Cup that year! Kimpembe played one game in the tournament, against Denmark in the group stage.

European Championships and Later Years

In May 2021, he was picked for the French squad for the 2020 European Championships. He played in all four of France's matches, playing every minute until they were defeated by Switzerland.

He was also named in the French squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. However, he had to pull out of the tournament due to an injury just before it started.

Presnel Kimpembe has a few interesting facts about his life outside of football.

"Maestro" Nickname

In July 2018, Kimpembe's name was featured in a popular song by Vegedream called "Ramenez la coupe à la maison" (Bring the cup home). The song repeated "Maestro Kimpembe," which led to him getting the nickname 'Maestro'.

Voice Acting and Fashion

Kimpembe also used his voice for a movie! He was the French voice for Spider-Man's enemy, Scorpion, in the 2018 Marvel film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

In June 2020, he started his own streetwear clothing brand called PK3 Paris. He also uses his fame to help others. In November 2021, he held an auction of sports items. All the money raised went to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) to help people in Haiti.

Kimpembe is a Muslim and has performed the Islamic Pilgrimage of Umrah.
