Early Life and Birth
Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018, at St Mary's Hospital in London. At the time, his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was the Queen. His parents were known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge back then.
His birth was celebrated with special gun salutes and bell ringings across the country. A few days later, on April 27, his name was announced as Louis Arthur Charles. This name honors his grandfather, Charles, Prince of Wales (who is now King Charles III). It also honors his great-great-great-uncle, Louis, Earl Mountbatten of Burma.
On July 9, Prince Louis was christened (a special religious ceremony). The ceremony was led by the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. It took place in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace.
Growing Up and Education
During his early childhood, Prince Louis and his family lived in two main homes. These were Kensington Palace in London and Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
In 2019, Prince Louis made his first public appearance at Trooping the Colour. This is a big parade that celebrates the monarch's official birthday.
In April 2021, he started attending Willcocks Nursery School. This school was close to Kensington Palace.
In 2022, his family moved to Adelaide Cottage. This home is in Windsor Home Park. After this move, Louis began attending Lambrook school. This is a private preparatory school in Berkshire. He attends Lambrook with his older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Royal Events and Changes
Prince Louis joined his siblings and parents for Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This event in 2022 marked Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years as monarch.
Sadly, Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022. After her passing, Louis's grandfather became King Charles III. This change meant that Prince Louis became fourth in line to the throne.
On May 6, 2023, Prince Louis attended his grandfather's coronation. He was there with his parents and older siblings for this important event.
His Royal Title
Prince Louis is a British prince. His official title is "His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales".
Before his father became the Prince of Wales on September 9, 2022, Louis had a different title. He was known as "His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge".
Who is Next in Line?
Prince Louis is fourth in the line of succession to the British throne. This means he is fourth in line to become the next King or Queen.
He is behind his father, Prince William. He is also behind his two older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
A rule change called the Perth Agreement was put in place. This rule changed how the line of succession works. Before, younger brothers would come before older sisters. Now, the oldest child, regardless of gender, comes first. Because of this new rule, Prince Louis is the first British prince to be ranked behind an elder sister (Princess Charlotte) in the line of succession.
