Royal Events and Succession
Platinum Jubilee and Coronation
Prince Louis joined his family for Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. This event marked Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years as monarch.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022. After her passing, Louis's grandfather became King Charles III. This meant Louis became fourth in line to the throne. He attended his grandfather's coronation on May 6, 2023. He was there with his parents and older siblings.
His Royal Title
Prince Louis is a British prince. His official title is "His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales." Before his father became the Prince of Wales on September 9, 2022, Louis was known as "His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge."
Line to the Throne
Louis is fourth in the line of succession to the British throne. He is behind his father, Prince William. He is also behind his two older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
A rule change called the Perth Agreement happened in 2013. Before this, sons would always be ahead of their older sisters in the line of succession. Now, the oldest child, regardless of gender, comes first. Because of this new rule, Louis is the first British prince to be ranked behind an elder sister (Princess Charlotte) in the line of succession.
