The song was first played on Radio Disney. This helped promote the TV show and its first music album, Hannah Montana. "Pumpin' Up the Party" has a teen pop and dance-pop sound, which means it's upbeat and great for dancing!

In the United States, the song became quite popular. It reached number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also made it to the top 70 on the Pop 100 chart. When this song appeared on the Billboard Hot 100, Miley Cyrus made history. She was the first artist to have six songs appear on the chart in the same week! A music video for the song was made from a live concert performance. Miley, as Hannah Montana, also performed the song during her Best of Both Worlds Tour.

About the Song

Jamie Houston, a songwriter, had great success with songs for the High School Musical album. Because of this, Walt Disney Records asked him to work on music for Hannah Montana. Jamie Houston wrote "Pumpin' Up the Party" all by himself for the show's first album.

You can find different versions of the song. A karaoke version is on Disney's Karaoke Series: Hannah Montana (2007). There's also a remixed version on Hits Remixed (2008). The song first played on Radio Disney to get people excited about the show and its soundtrack.

"Pumpin' Up the Party" is a pop song that lasts three minutes and nine seconds. Heather Phares from AllMusic described it as a song with a good groove. It has influences from teen pop and dance-pop music. This means it's catchy and makes you want to move!

How the Song Charted

"Pumpin' Up the Party" was not released as a single, so it mostly played on Radio Disney. Its popularity on music charts came from people downloading it online. After the Hannah Montana album came out, the song reached number 41 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs Chart. This led to it appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on November 11, 2006.

The song reached its highest spot on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 81. This was part of the amazing record Miley Cyrus set. She was the first artist to have six songs debut on the Billboard Hot 100 in the same week! She also became the female artist with the most songs on the chart at once. Later, Taylor Swift also achieved these records. "Pumpin' Up the Party" stayed on the chart for one week. The song also reached number 62 on the Pop 100 Chart, which no longer exists.

Miley Cyrus, as Hannah Montana, first performed "Pumpin' Up the Party" during the filming of the first season of Hannah Montana. She wore pink-polka dotted pajamas and slippers. Backup dancers also wore sleepwear. The performance looked like a sleepover party! Miley started singing from a bed, had a pillow fight with dancers, and then performed around the stage. This performance was later used as the song's music video on Disney Channel.

Miley also performed the song in 2006. She opened for the Cheetah Girls on their 2006 and 2007 concert tour, The Party's Just Begun Tour. On March 28, 2007, Miley performed the song as Hannah Montana for Hannah Montana: Live in London at Koko.

"Pumpin' Up the Party" was also a part of Miley's first big tour, the Best of Both Worlds Tour (2007–08). She sang the song at every show, dressed as Hannah Montana in a sparkly pink mini-dress and bright pink tights. She performed with many backup dancers.

At Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, a version of the song has been used since February 2009. It's the opening song and theme for the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! parade and dance party.
