Puyehue is a special area in Chile called a commune. It is found in the Osorno Province of the Los Lagos Region.
Puyehue is surrounded by beautiful nature. To the south, you'll find Rupanco Lake. To the east are the towering Andes mountains and the country of Argentina. Puyehue Lake is to the north, and the city of Osorno is to the west. A special road called Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass connects this area to Argentina. The main town in Puyehue is Entre Lagos, which helps manage the commune.

Population and Area
In 2002, a count of the people (called a census) was done. It showed that Puyehue covers about 1,597.9 square kilometers. There were 11,368 people living there. This included 6,008 men and 5,360 women.
City and Countryside Living
Of these people, 3,932 (about 34.6%) lived in urban areas, which are like cities or towns. The other 7,436 people (about 65.4%) lived in rural areas, which are more like the countryside. Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people in Puyehue grew by a small amount, about 1.4%.

Local Government
A group called the municipal council helps run Puyehue. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like a mayor. The people of Puyehue vote directly for their alcalde every four years.

In the Chamber of Deputies, which is part of Chile's parliament, Puyehue is represented by two people. These representatives work for the 56th electoral district. This district includes Puyehue and several other communes like Río Negro and Puerto Varas.
In the Senate, which is the other part of Chile's parliament, Puyehue is represented by two senators. They represent the entire Los Lagos Region.
