Racine (pronounced "ray-SEEN") is a small city in Mower County, Minnesota, United States. It is located in the southeastern part of the state. In 2020, about 458 people lived in Racine.

The Story of Racine

Racine was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1890. This process is called "platting." It means the streets and building lots were laid out for the new town.

Where is Racine?

Racine is located in the northeastern part of Mower County. It is surrounded by Racine Township but is a separate city.

U.S. Route 63 is a main road that goes through the west side of Racine. This road can take you north about 5 miles (8 km) to Stewartville. If you go southeast about 10 miles (16 km), you will reach Spring Valley. Austin, which is the main city of Mower County, is about 30 miles (48 km) to the southwest.

The city of Racine covers a total area of about 0.67 square miles (1.73 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Water from Racine flows east into small streams that lead to Bear Creek. Bear Creek is part of the Root River watershed, which eventually flows into the mighty Mississippi River.
