Discovering Rainy Lake

Rainy Lake is a freshwater lake in the Canadian province of Ontario. It's a great example of the many natural wonders found in this region. The lake is known for its calm waters and natural surroundings.

How Big is Rainy Lake?

Rainy Lake is about 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) long. It measures about 0.4 kilometers (0.25 miles) wide. The lake sits at an elevation of about 325 meters (1,066 feet) above sea level.

It is located about 16 kilometers (10 miles) east of a small community called Gunter. It's also about 14 kilometers (9 miles) northwest of another community named Cloyne.

Where Does the Water Come From?

The main source of water for Rainy Lake is Rainy Creek. This creek flows into the lake from the west side. There are also two other smaller creeks that flow into the lake from the north. One of these creeks brings water from Norway Lake.

Where Does the Water Go?

The water from Rainy Lake flows out from its eastern side, also through Rainy Creek. This creek then connects to the Skootamatta River. The Skootamatta River then joins the Moira River. Finally, the Moira River carries the water into the Bay of Quinte. The Bay of Quinte is a part of Lake Ontario, near the city of Belleville. This whole path is called a drainage basin, which is like a giant funnel that collects and moves water.
