Rakesh Roshan (born on September 6, 1949) is a famous Indian film producer, director, screenwriter, and actor. He works in Hindi films. He acted in many movies during the 1970s and 1980s, often playing supporting roles. Later, he became very well-known for directing movies, especially those whose titles start with the letter "K."
Some of his most popular films as a director include Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), Karan Arjun (1995), Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), and the science fiction film Koi... Mil Gaya (2003) and its superhero sequels, the Krrish film series (2006–2013). He has won important awards like the Filmfare Award for Best Film and Best Director for Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai and Koi... Rakesh Roshan was born on September 6, 1949. His father was Roshan Lal Nagrath, a well-known music director. His mother was Ira Moitra, a singer. His younger brother is Rajesh Roshan, who is also a famous music composer.
Rakesh Roshan's Career Journey
Starting as an Actor (1970s-1980s)
Rakesh Roshan began his career in films after his father passed away. He first worked as an assistant director. He made his acting debut in the 1970 film Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani.
He often played supporting roles in big movies like Man Mandir, Khel Khel Mein, and Khandaan. He also had lead roles in some films, especially those that focused more on the female lead, such as Paraya Dhan and Khubsoorat.
In 1980, Rakesh Roshan started his own film production company called Filmkraft. Their first movie, Aap Ke Deewane (1980), was not a big hit. However, his next film, Kaamchor, which he also produced, became successful, partly because of its popular music.
Becoming a Director (1987-1999)

He then directed Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), a revenge story that was very popular and showed a strong female lead character. This film earned him his first nominations for Best Film and Best Director awards. He continued to direct successful films like the action comedy Kishen Kanhaiya (1990).
His films Khel (1992) and King Uncle (1993) were also popular, especially with families and children. King Uncle was one of the first successful films where Shah Rukh Khan played a supporting role.
In 1995, Rakesh Roshan directed Karan Arjun, a very popular movie starring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. It was one of the highest-grossing Indian films that year.
Directing His Son and the Krrish Series (2000-Present)

In 2000, Rakesh Roshan launched his son, Hrithik Roshan, as a lead actor in the musical thriller Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. This movie was a huge hit and won many awards, including Rakesh Roshan's first Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director.
He directed his son again in the 2003 science-fiction film Koi... Mil Gaya. This movie was praised for its unique story and was also a big success. It won Rakesh Roshan more Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director.
Following its success, he directed the superhero film Krrish (2006), which was the first superhero movie in Hindi cinema. It was a major hit. He continued the series with Krrish 3 in 2013, which was also very successful.

In January 2019, Rakesh Roshan was diagnosed with an early stage of throat cancer, but he has since recovered.
