Ramiele Macrohon Malubay, born on September 6, 1987, is a talented Filipino-American singer. She is also known simply as Ramiele. Many people know her as the ninth-place finalist from the seventh season of the popular TV show American Idol.

About Ramiele Malubay

Ramiele Macrohon Malubay was born in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Her parents, Roger Malubay and Alicia Macrohon, were Filipino immigrants. When the Gulf War began, her parents sent her to the Philippines for safety. Later, her family moved to the United States. They now live in Miramar, Florida.

Ramiele finished high school at Charles W. Flanagan High School. After that, she studied nursing at Broward College.

Ramiele's Early Music Journey

Ramiele started Polynesian dancing when she was in first grade. She began singing when she was twelve years old. From a young age, Ramiele sang at many events for Filipino-Americans in Florida. She even opened for famous Filipino singers like Kuh Ledesma and Martin Nievera when they toured America.

Ramiele on American Idol

Ramiele auditioned for American Idol in August 2007. She sang "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. Her audition was a success!

Her Performances and Journey

Ramiele received great reviews after her first performance in the voting rounds. She sang "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me." Judge Randy Jackson said her performance was "classy, almost like a pro." Simon Cowell even said she "outsang every single person" that night.

Cowell also called her "one of the top three singers" after she sang "Don't Leave Me This Way." He noted that she was "probably the most consistently good singer" during the Hollywood rounds. Ramiele finished in ninth place on the show. She is believed to be the shortest contestant in Idol history, standing only 4 feet 11 inches tall.

Ramiele was eliminated from American Idol on April 2, 2008. This happened during Dolly Parton week. After a heartfelt goodbye, she sang "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" one last time. Before her elimination, Ramiele had never been in the Bottom 3.

Friendships and Influences

During her time on American Idol, Ramiele was roommates with Syesha Mercado and Brooke White. She became good friends with fellow contestants Danny Noriega, Kady Malloy, and Syesha Mercado. Ramiele also mentioned forming close bonds with Brooke White and the winner, David Cook.

Her favorite singers and musical inspirations include Aretha Franklin, Jackson 5, Mariah Carey, Lani Misalucha, and Regine Velasquez. She often said Regine Velasquez was her favorite performer.

After American Idol

After American Idol, Ramiele joined the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2008. She performed with the other Top 10 finalists during that summer. Ramiele shared that she wanted to go to the Philippines to continue her singing career. She hoped to follow in the footsteps of another Idol singer, Jasmine Trias. If singing didn't work out, Ramiele planned to go back to school and try acting.

TV Appearances and Other Performances

Ramiele appeared on many TV shows after Idol. These included Live with Regis and Kelly, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the Today show. She also appeared on The Sauce, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, Access Hollywood, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. During her appearance on The Morning Show, she said she would love to work with Disney.

In 2008, Ramiele was nominated for a Favorite TV Personality award. This was at the JC Penney Asian Excellence Awards. In December 2007, she performed in a concert in the Philippines. She sang alongside Ogie Alcasid and finalists from Pinoy Idol. These finalists included Gretchen Espina, Jayann Bautista, Ram Chaves, and Robby Navarro.

On November 14, 2009, Ramiele sang the American national anthem. She performed before a big boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Ángel Cotto. This event took place at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. She was introduced simply as "Ramiele."
