Ramses Alexander Barden (born January 1, 1986) is a former professional football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Barden played college football for the Cal Poly Mustangs. The New York Giants chose him in the third round of the 2009 NFL draft. He won Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants against the New England Patriots.

Early Life and High School Sports

Ramses Barden was born in Altadena, California. He attended Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada Flintridge, California. In high school, he was a star in many sports. He was chosen for the all-league team three times in football. As a senior, he caught 41 passes for 915 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He also played free safety on defense.

Besides football, Barden was also great at basketball, scoring 17 points per game. He also competed in volleyball and track and field. He was named the small schools High School Athlete of the Year. Many colleges wanted him to play for them, including UPenn and Stanford. Barden decided to play for the Cal Poly Mustangs.

College Football Career

Ramses Barden joined Cal Poly in 2004. He spent his first year as a "redshirt" player, meaning he practiced but did not play in games.

Freshman Season Success

In 2005, as a redshirt freshman, Barden quickly became a key player. He led the Cal Poly Mustangs with 40 catches for 655 yards. He also scored 9 touchdowns. He was named a first-team All-Great West Conference player. In one game against Southern Utah, he caught 9 passes, which was his personal best at the time.

Sophomore Year Highlights

In 2006, Barden continued to lead Cal Poly's offense. He had 42 catches for 824 yards and 5 touchdowns. For the second year in a row, he was named a first-team All-Great West player. In a game against Sacramento State, he had 9 catches for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. This earned him the Great West Conference Player of the Week award. His 824 receiving yards that year ranked 11th in his school's history.

Junior Year Achievements

Barden's junior year in 2007 was outstanding. He was again named to the All-Great West First Team. He also earned the title of Great West Co-Offensive Player of the Year. He caught 57 passes for an amazing 1,467 yards and 18 touchdowns. In a big win over Idaho State, he had 10 catches for a career-high 268 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Senior Year Records

In his senior year (2008), Barden matched his 18 touchdowns from the previous year. He also caught more passes, with 67 receptions for 1,257 yards. Fans at Spanos Stadium even wore T-shirts that said "Throw it to Ramses."

During a game against UC Davis, Barden broke a division record. He scored a touchdown catch in 17 games in a row, passing Jerry Rice's previous record. Ramses Barden finished his college career with 206 catches, 4,203 yards, and 50 touchdowns.

As of 2025, Ramses Barden still holds an impressive FCS record. He has the most consecutive career games with a touchdown catch, with a total of 20 games.

Before the NFL Combine, Ramses Barden was measured at 6 feet 6.5 inches tall and weighed 225 pounds. He was the tallest wide receiver in his draft class.

New York Giants Years

In the 2009 NFL draft, the New York Giants traded up to pick Barden in the third round. He played in three games in his first year, catching 1 pass for 16 yards. In his second season, he had 5 catches in three games before an ankle injury ended his season in November 2010.

Barden returned to play in November 2011. He caught 2 passes in a win against the New England Patriots. In 2012, he had a great game against the Carolina Panthers. He caught 9 passes for 138 yards, which was a breakout performance for him. The Giants re-signed Barden in 2013, but he was released before the regular season began.

Later NFL Teams

After not playing in the 2013 NFL season, Barden signed with the Buffalo Bills in January 2014. He was released by the Bills in July 2014.

Barden then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in August 2014. However, the Jaguars released him later that same month.

Life After Football

On July 6, 2015, Ramses Barden tried out for the Essendon Football Club, an Australian rules football team. The tryout was short, and he was not offered a contract. Today, Ramses Barden works as a coach for the football team at his old high school, Flintridge Preparatory School.
