Story of Red Data Girl
The story is about Izumiko Suzuhara, a 15-year-old girl. She grew up at Tamakura Shrine, which is part of the Kumano Shrines. These shrines are a World Heritage Site.
Izumiko has a very unusual power: any electronic device she touches breaks! She is quite shy but dreams of living in a big city. Her guardian, Yukimasa Sagara, suggests she goes to Hōjō High School in Tokyo. His son, Miyuki Sagara, goes with her to protect her. Miyuki has been training as a yamabushi (a mountain monk) since he was young.
During a school trip to Tokyo, a powerful spirit called "Himegami" appears. Izumiko soon learns a big secret: she is a yorishiro. This means she is a special person who can be a vessel, or host, for a Shinto spirit called a kami. She also finds out that Miyuki's job is to keep her safe.
