Reginald Eurias Cathey (born August 18, 1958 – died February 9, 2018) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different kinds of roles.
Some of his most famous parts include Norman Wilson in The Wire and Martin Querns in Oz. He was also the game show announcer in Square One Television. Later, he played Dr. Franklin Storm in the 2015 movie Fantastic Four.
One of his most popular roles was Freddy Hayes in House of Cards. He was nominated for an Emmy Award three times for this role. He even won an Emmy Award in 2015 for being an outstanding guest actor in a drama series.

Early life
Reg E. Cathey was born on August 18, 1958, in Huntsville, Alabama. His father, Red Cathey, was an Army colonel. He fought in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His mother worked for the DOD and was also a teacher. Reg had a sister named Donza.
He spent his childhood living with his family on a farm in West Germany. When he was 14, his family moved back to Alabama.
Reg became interested in acting when he was 9 years old. This happened after he saw a show by the United Service Organization in West Germany. He went to J.O. Johnson High School and acted in plays there, like To Kill a Mockingbird. After high school, he studied theater at the University of Michigan and the Yale School of Drama.
Career
One of Reg E. Cathey's first acting jobs was on the children's TV show Square One TV. He was the game show announcer and played many small parts in the show's skits. He was also known for singing songs like "Nine, Nine, Nine" and "Rappin' Judge."
After Square One TV, he appeared in popular TV shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Homicide: Life on the Street. In movies, he played Freeze in The Mask (1994). He was also the coroner in Se7en (1995).
Reg played the bad guy Dirty Dee in the comedy movie Pootie Tang. He also had a regular role on the HBO show The Wire. In this show, he played Norman Wilson during the fourth and fifth seasons. He also played Martin Querns in the HBO prison drama Oz.
He was the voice for Aftermath: Population Zero, a National Geographic Channel special. This show imagined what Earth would be like if humans no longer existed. He also narrated Wonders of Weather for TLC. On the show Between the Lions, he played King Ray in a story called "Rumpelstiltskin."
In 2009, Reg Cathey was in The People Speak. This was a documentary movie that used real letters, diaries, and speeches from everyday Americans. It was based on a history book by Howard Zinn.
In 2009, he acted in a play called The Shawshank Redemption in London. He also appeared in two episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He played an undercover police officer in one episode and a defense attorney in another. He also appeared in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Reg E. Cathey passed away at his home in New York City on February 9, 2018. He was 59 years old. Reports said he had lung cancer. His body was cremated, and his ashes were spread in New York City.
