Early Life and Music
Reyna Roberts was born on August 15, 1997, in Anchorage, Alaska. Her parents were both engineers in the Army. Reyna grew up living in different states like Alabama and California.
She was born early, weighing only two pounds. Doctors suggested playing music for her to help her brain grow. This might be why music became so important to her!
Reyna first sang in public at age three at a karaoke bar in Alaska. When she was 10, her family lost their home. But they made sure to keep her piano in a storage unit. Reyna practiced her piano there for three years.
Her family moved many times, including to Alaska, Alabama, Tennessee, and California. Their move to California was specifically to help Reyna with her music career.
In high school, Reyna was on the wrestling team. She started writing songs to impress the team captain. She recorded one of these songs, "Lying to Myself," in 2014. In 2016, she released an EP (a short album) called The Beginning. It included the song "I'm Coming For Ya." She even toured the U.S. with other bands like the Plain White T's.
Reyna's Music Career
From 2018 to 2020, Reyna lived in Nashville and Los Angeles. She went to special camps to learn how to write songs and meet other artists. She moved to Nashville for good in March 2020.
Getting Noticed
In June 2020, country singer Mickey Guyton shared a video of Reyna singing a Carrie Underwood song. Carrie Underwood then shared the video too! This helped Reyna get a lot of attention in the music world. Reyna said she was "stunned" by their kindness.
In July 2020, Reyna released her song "Stompin' Grounds." Rolling Stone magazine said it was good enough to be a top country hit.
Growing Success
Reyna joined CMT's "Next Women in Country" group in 2021. This group highlights new female country artists. She was also named one of RADIO.COM's "Leading Ladies" of Country Music.
She toured with Jamey Johnson in 2021, performing before his shows in seven cities. In August, she played at her first big festival, the Watershed Fest in Washington State.
