Where is Richland Township?
Richland Township is found in the northeast part of Montcalm County. It shares borders with Isabella County to the north and Gratiot County to the east.
Roads and Rivers in Richland Township
State highway M-46 runs through the township. This road goes west towards Edmore and east towards St. Louis. Stanton, which is the main town for Montcalm County (called the county seat), is located southwest of the township.
The total area of Richland Township is about 36.2 square miles. Most of this area, 35.6 square miles, is land. The remaining 0.6 square miles is water. The Pine River flows through the middle of the township. This river eventually joins the Chippewa River, which is part of the larger Saginaw River system that flows into Lake Huron.
Communities in Richland Township
- Vestaburg is a small, unofficial community located in the southern part of the township. It was started in 1874 by George W. O'Donnell. He named it after his wife, Vesta Burgess O'Donnell. The first post office in Vestaburg opened in 1875. Today, the Vestaburg post office (ZIP code 48891) serves most of Richland Township. It also serves small parts of nearby townships.
