A Look Back at Rifle Range's History
A place for target practice, called a rifle range, was first set up near Lowood in 1886. Then, in January 1905, the Queensland Government sold some land for £260 to build a new rifle range close to Lowood.
The south-eastern edge of this old rifle range is the same as the current south-eastern boundary of the Rifle Range locality. This is probably how the area got its name! The Lowood rifle range stopped being used in 1953.
