Robb Holland (born November 18, 1967, in Denver, Colorado) is an American racing driver. He has competed in many different international racing events. Robb is well-known for being the first American driver to race full-time in the British Touring Car Championship in 2014. He drove an Audi S3 for Rotek Racing. He was also the first American to compete in the World Touring Car Championship in 2012. He raced for Bamboo Engineering at Sonoma Raceway in California.
Robb started his professional racing journey in the Pirelli World Challenge series. He drove a Dodge SRT4 Touring Car for the 3R Racing team. He achieved Dodge's first podium finish at Road America. He also finished second in the Rookie of the Year competition. In 2011, he finished third overall in the championships. He was driving for the factory Volvo team, K-PAX Racing.
In 2016, Robb Holland competed in his first Pikes Peak Hillclimb. He broke the existing record for Front Wheel Drive cars by almost a minute.
Robb Holland's Racing Journey
Robb Holland has had an exciting career in motorsports. He has driven many different cars and competed in various championships.
Early Career and Volvo Success (2011)
In 2011, Robb Holland joined K-PAX Racing. His job was to drive and help develop the factory Volvo C30 touring car. Even with a quick start to the season, he finished the year with three podiums. A podium means finishing in the top three. One of his big achievements was a win and a lap record at Mid Ohio. He ended up finishing third overall in the championship that year.
British Touring Car Debut (2012)
Robb Holland made his first appearance in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in 2012. This happened at the Snetterton Motor Racing Circuit. He drove a Honda Civic for Team HARD.. He was the first American to race in the BTCC since Bill Gubelmann in 1975. In his first race, he crashed and could not finish. However, he scored points in his second race by finishing fourteenth. He also earned points in two races at Knockhill Racing Circuit.
World Touring Car Championship (2012)
Later in 2012, Robb Holland got a last-minute call from bamboo-engineering. They asked him to drive their Chevrolet Cruze in the 2012 FIA WTCC Race of the United States. This made him the first American driver ever to compete in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). He had very little practice in the car. He qualified 21st but finished well in both races. His best result was thirteenth overall in the first race. He also finished seventh in the independents category.
Returning to BTCC (2013)
In July 2013, Robb Holland rejoined Tony Gilham Racing in the British Touring Car Championship. He drove an NGTC Vauxhall Insignia. He managed to score points in two of the three races he competed in.
Full-Time BTCC Season (2014)
In October 2013, Robb Holland announced he would race full-time in the BTCC in 2014. He drove an Audi S3 built by Rotek Racing. This made him the first American to be a full-time racer in the UK's most popular racing series. Since most circuits were new to him, he aimed to score points by the second half of the season.
His new Audi S3 was finished just days before the first race. He struggled at first, with his best finish being 20th. At the next race, he was involved in a crash that badly damaged his Audi. This meant he missed the following race. When he returned, he showed strong driving in rainy conditions. He moved up many spots but had to stop due to a flat tire. He scored points at Snetterton and Rockingham. However, another crash at Silverstone ended his season early. He finished 27th overall.
Filling In and International Races (2015)
Late in the 2015 season, Robb Holland stepped in for Simon Belcher. He drove a Toyota Avensis for Handy Motorsport. In his first race weekend with the team, he finished 14th. This was Handy Motorsport's best result in the BTCC at that time.
Holland also got a last-minute call to race for the Chinese FRD Racing team. He drove a Ford Focus TCR car in Thailand. Then, he raced a Seat Leon TCR car for Road Star Racing in Macau. He finished sixth overall in the famous Guia Race of Macau. He also came in second in the TCR Asia division.
Pikes Peak Hillclimb Records (2016-2017)
In 2016, Robb Holland returned to the US. His goal was to break the Front Wheel Drive record at the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. He succeeded, setting a time of 10:56.878. This broke the old record by over a minute.
He returned to Pikes Peak in 2017. This time, he drove an 850 horsepower Corvette. His team built the car in just 75 days. This Corvette became the fastest Corvette in history to go up Pikes Peak.
