Club Career Highlights
Starting at Chelsea
Robert Huth was born in Biesdorf, East Berlin. He played for youth teams like VfB Fortuna Biesdorf and 1. FC Union Berlin before moving to England. He joined Chelsea in 2001. Huth made his first appearance for Chelsea when he was just 17 years old. This was in the last game of the 2001–02 season.
During his time at Chelsea, it was tough for Huth to become a regular starter. There were many strong defenders like John Terry, William Gallas, and Ricardo Carvalho already playing for the team. He still played in some important matches. Huth scored two goals for Chelsea. One was in a Champions League qualifier, and the other was in an FA Cup match. By 2006, he decided he wanted to play more often. This led him to look for a new club.
Moving to Middlesbrough
On 31 August 2006, Robert Huth signed with Middlesbrough for £6 million. He signed a five-year contract. His start at Middlesbrough was a bit difficult as he needed to get fully fit. However, he soon became a regular player. He scored his first goal for Middlesbrough in December 2006 against Tottenham Hotspur.
Unfortunately, Huth faced some injuries during his time at Middlesbrough. He had a foot injury and later needed ankle surgery in 2007. Despite these setbacks, he worked hard to return to the team. He formed a strong defensive partnership with David Wheater. In the 2008–09 season, Middlesbrough struggled and was relegated from the Premier League. After playing a few more games in the Championship, Huth moved back to the Premier League.
Time at Stoke City
On 27 August 2009, Huth joined Stoke City for £5 million. He signed a four-year contract. He quickly became a key player for Stoke. He scored his first goal for Stoke in October 2009 against Everton.
The 2010–11 season was very successful for Huth. He scored important goals, including one in the FA Cup quarter-final against West Ham. He also scored in the FA Cup Semi-final against Bolton Wanderers, helping Stoke reach the final. This was the first time Stoke had reached the FA Cup final since 1972. Although Stoke lost the final to Manchester City, Huth's performance was outstanding. He was named Stoke's Player of the Year for that season.
Huth continued to be a vital part of Stoke's defense. In June 2012, he signed a new three-year contract. He faced another challenge when he became ill with viral meningitis in August 2012. However, he recovered quickly and returned to play. In November 2013, he suffered a knee injury that required surgery. This injury kept him out of action for almost a year. He left Stoke City in June 2015 after making 188 appearances and scoring 18 goals.
Winning the League with Leicester City
On 2 February 2015, Huth joined Leicester City on loan. He helped Leicester avoid relegation from the Premier League that season. His arrival seemed to boost the team, as they won seven of their last nine games.

Huth's move to Leicester became permanent on 24 June 2015. He signed a three-year contract. The 2015–16 season was incredible for Leicester City and Huth. He scored important goals, including two in a 3–1 win against title rivals Manchester City. Leicester City, against all odds, won the Premier League title! This was a huge achievement, and Huth became only the seventh player to win the Premier League with two different teams.
Huth missed the entire 2017–18 season due to ankle and foot injuries. He left Leicester in June 2018 and announced his retirement from football on 11 January 2019. He played in 326 league matches in the top two levels of English football.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing, Robert Huth spent time studying to become a sporting director in Germany. In October 2022, he returned to Leicester City to take on the role of loans manager. In this role, he helps manage players who are on loan at other clubs.
International Career

Robert Huth was a member of the German national team from a young age. He played in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship. He made his debut for the senior German national team on 16 August 2004.
He played as a central defender for Germany alongside Per Mertesacker at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. On 29 June 2005, he scored his first goal for Germany in a thrilling 4–3 win against Mexico. This was during the third-place play-off match.
His second goal for Germany came in a friendly game against Italy in March 2006. Huth was part of the German squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which was held in Germany. He played in one group stage match during the tournament. He earned a total of 19 caps (appearances) and scored two goals for Germany between 2004 and 2009. Interestingly, Robert Huth is the only German international player who never played a game in the German Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league.
