Robert Huth (born 18 August 1984) is a German former professional footballer. He played as a centre-back, which is a player who defends the goal.
Huth won the Premier League three times. He has played more Premier League games (322) than any other German player.
He joined Chelsea in 2001 from a German youth team. It was hard for him to get a regular spot on the Chelsea team. Other strong defenders like John Terry were already there. In 2006, he moved to Middlesbrough. He played there for three years.
After Middlesbrough was relegated in 2009, Huth joined Stoke City. He had a great season in 2010–11. He even played in the FA Cup final. Stoke fans voted him their Player of the Year. He played regularly for Stoke until a knee injury kept him out for almost a year.
In 2015, Huth went to Leicester City on loan. He helped them avoid being relegated from the top league. Later, he joined Leicester permanently. He was a key player when Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016.
Huth also played for the German national team. He played 19 games and scored two goals between 2004 and 2009. He was part of the German teams that finished third in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Both tournaments were held in Germany.

Robert Huth's Club Career
Playing for Chelsea
Robert Huth was born in Biesdorf, East Berlin. He played for youth teams in Germany before joining Chelsea in England in 2001. Huth played his first game for Chelsea when he was 17 years old. This was in the last game of the 2001–02 season.
In the 2003–04 season, he played 20 games. He was happy to stay at Chelsea. However, in the 2004–05 season, injuries limited him to only 15 games.
By the 2005–06 season, it was clear Huth would not be a regular starter. Other strong defenders were ahead of him. Huth scored two goals for Chelsea during this time. One was in a Champions League game and the other in an FA Cup match. At the end of the 2005–06 season, Huth wanted to play more. Several clubs wanted to sign him. He decided to join Middlesbrough.
Time at Middlesbrough
On 31 August 2006, Robert Huth joined Middlesbrough. He signed a five-year contract. His start at Middlesbrough was difficult. He picked up a foot injury in training. This injury kept him out for six weeks.
He returned to play his first league game for Middlesbrough in October. He scored his first goal for the club in December 2006. However, he got injured again shortly after.
Huth had ankle surgery in the summer of 2007. He returned to training in November 2007. He formed a strong defensive partnership with David Wheater. He scored against Newcastle United in February. But injuries continued to affect him. He missed the last two months of the 2007–08 season.
He started the 2008–09 season well. However, he suffered another ankle injury. Middlesbrough had a tough season and was relegated to the Championship. Huth played five league games for Middlesbrough at the start of the 2009–10 season. Then he moved back to the Premier League.
Playing for Stoke City
On 27 August 2009, Huth signed a four-year contract with Stoke City. He played his first game for Stoke on 29 August 2009. He scored his first Stoke goal in October 2009 against Everton.
In January 2010, Huth scored a goal in the last minute against Liverpool. He also scored against Portsmouth. He was made captain for Stoke's 2009–10 FA Cup game against his old club Chelsea. He said this was a very proud moment for him.
Huth scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute against Aston Villa in the 2010–11 season. He scored several more goals that season. He also scored in the FA Cup quarter-final and semi-final. This helped Stoke reach the FA Cup final. He was the first Stoke defender to score nine goals in one season. Stoke lost 1–0 to Manchester City in the final. After a great season, Huth was named Stoke's Player of the Year.
In 2011, Stoke signed new defenders. This meant Huth sometimes played as a right-back. He later returned to his usual centre-back position. He scored against Everton. He also scored two goals later in the season. Stoke's manager wanted to give Huth a new contract.
In June 2012, Huth signed a new three-year contract with Stoke. He became ill with viral meningitis in August. But he recovered quickly and played on the first day of the 2012–13 season. He scored his first goal of the season in February 2013. He played 39 games for Stoke in 2012–13.
In November 2013, Huth had a knee injury that needed surgery. He needed a second operation and missed the rest of the 2013–14 season.
He returned from injury at the start of the 2014–15 season. But he got another injury in training. He played his first league game in over a year in December 2014. Huth left Stoke in June 2015. He had played 188 games and scored 18 goals for the club.
Joining Leicester City

On 2 February 2015, Huth joined Leicester City on loan. He played his first game for them eight days later. He scored his first goal for Leicester on 11 April 2015. Leicester won seven of their last nine games after Huth joined. This helped them stay in the Premier League.
Huth joined Leicester permanently on 24 June 2015. He signed a three-year contract. On 13 January, he scored his first goal of the season for Leicester. He scored twice in a 3–1 win against Manchester City on 6 February. This put Leicester six points clear at the top of the league. Leicester then won the Premier League title. Huth became only the seventh player to win the Premier League with two different teams.
Huth missed the entire 2017–18 season due to ankle and foot injuries. He left the club in June 2018. He announced his retirement from football on 11 January 2019. He played 326 league games in England.
Coaching Career
After leaving Leicester in 2018, Huth studied to become a sporting director in Germany. In October 2022, Huth returned to Leicester City. He took on the role of loans manager. This means he helps manage players who are on loan to other clubs.
Robert Huth's International Career

Robert Huth played for the German national team from a young age. He also played in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship. He was first called up to the senior German national team in August 2004. He played as a substitute in a friendly game against Austria.
He was a main defender for Germany at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. On 29 June, he scored his first goal for Germany. This was in a 4–3 win against Mexico.
His second goal for Germany was in a 4–1 loss to Italy in March 2006. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, Huth lost his starting spot. He only played one game in the tournament.
He was called back to the German team in March 2008 for a friendly game. But he was ruled out due to a foot injury. He played a total of 19 games and scored two goals for Germany. He ended his international career quite early.
Robert Huth is the only German international player who never played a game in the German Bundesliga.
