In the quarter-final game against England, the referee sent off England's Wayne Rooney after an incident with Carvalho. Carvalho played in all of Portugal's matches leading up to the semi-finals. Playing Style

Ricardo Carvalho was a central defender known for his smart play. He was good at reading the game and knowing when to challenge for the ball. He was quick, good at heading the ball, and had excellent technique. He could also pass the ball well. Even though he wasn't as physically strong as some other defenders, he was known for being tough and making strong tackles.
He often played alongside a more physical defender, like John Terry at Chelsea. Terry's powerful style worked well with Carvalho's quickness, skill, and smart thinking. Even though Carvalho wasn't as tall as many central defenders (he is 1.83 meters, or about 6 feet tall), he was very good at winning aerial duels against taller players. Many experts and football figures considered Carvalho one of the best defenders in the world during his best years. He is also seen as one of the greatest defenders in the history of the Premier League.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Ricardo Carvalho became a coach. He was an assistant manager for Andre Villas Boas at the French club Marseille. He is currently an assistant coach for the Portugal national team.
