Rocky Ridge is a small town located in Juab County, Utah, in the United States. It sits on the edge of the Juab Valley, near the Wasatch Range mountains.
In 2010, about 733 people lived here. By 2018, the number grew to an estimated 833 people. The town is part of the larger Provo–Orem metropolitan area.
The town is named after the many rocks found on the ridges that separate Juab and Utah counties. These rocks come in many types and colors.
History
The area where Rocky Ridge is now was once called York. This community was important for the Utah Southern Railroad from 1875 to 1879. It was the end of the railroad line for a few years. The Union Pacific Railroad controlled the Utah Southern Railroad.
A post office opened in York in 1875. But when the railroad tracks were extended further south, the community of York was mostly left empty. The post office closed in 1879.
For almost 100 years, not much changed in the area. Then, in 1971, a person named Marvin L. Allred bought about 225 acres (91 hectares) of land here. Around this time, the Interstate 15 highway was also completed nearby.
Over the next 25 years, the community grew. It became known locally as Allred Ranch. More land was added, totaling over 950 acres (384 hectares).
In 1996, local residents asked the Juab County leaders to officially make the area a town. They wanted to call it "Rocky Ridge." Before this, some residents had tried to incorporate it as "York," but that didn't work out. The petition in 1996 showed that 210 people lived in the area. By October of that year, the request to make Rocky Ridge an official town was approved.
