Mona is a city located in Juab County, Utah, United States. In 2010, about 1,547 people lived there. It is part of the larger Provo–Orem metropolitan area.
Mona is found along Interstate 15. It sits roughly halfway between the cities of Santaquin and Nephi. In 2000, Mona had 850 residents. This number was enough for it to become a city in 2001.
A large farm near Mona grows about 200 acres (0.81 km2) of lavender. This farm is owned by a company called Young Living. Because of this, Mona is famous for its yearly Lavender Festival.
History of Mona
Mona is one of the oldest settlements along the historic Arrowhead Trail. People first settled here in 1852.
The area had a few different names before it became Mona. It was first called Clover Creek because of the wild clover growing by the creek. Later, it was named Willow Creek after its water source. For a short time, it was even called Starr after a local settler. Finally, it received its current name, Mona.
In the early 1930s, a traveling worker and singer named Burl Ives visited Mona. He was once put in jail in Mona. This happened because he sang a song called "Foggy Foggy Dew". The local authorities at the time thought the song was not appropriate.
Geography and Location
Mona is located in the northeastern part of Juab County. Its exact coordinates are 39°48′55″N 111°51′23″W.
Interstate 15 runs along the eastern side of the city. You can get to Mona from Exit 233. This highway goes north about 12 miles (19 km) to Santaquin. It continues north about 33 miles (53 km) to Provo. To the south, I-15 leads about 9 miles (14 km) to Nephi.
The United States Census Bureau reports that Mona covers a total area of about 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2). A small part of this area, about 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), is water. The Mona Reservoir is partly located in the northwest of the city. This reservoir holds water from Currant Creek, which flows north towards Utah Lake.
Mount Nebo is a very tall mountain. It is the highest mountain in the Wasatch Range to the south. Mount Nebo rises about 5 miles (8 km) east of Mona. Its peak reaches an elevation of 11,928 feet (3,636 m).

The population of Mona has changed over many years. In 2000, there were 850 people living in the town. There were 232 households and 203 families. The population density was about 614 people per square mile (237.8/km2).
Most people in Mona were White (98.24%). A small number were Native American or Asian. About 1.41% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (53.0%) had children under 18 living with them. Most households (77.2%) were married couples. The average household had 3.66 people. The average family had 3.97 people.
