Rush Creek is a stream located in the United States state of Minnesota. It flows through two counties, Fillmore and Winona. This creek is a smaller branch, or tributary, of the Root River. Rush Creek joins the Root River in the town of Rushford, Minnesota.
The Story Behind the Name
This creek got its name from the many "rush" plants that grow along its banks. These plants are a type of grass-like plant often found near water.
In August 2007, Rush Creek experienced some very big floods. These floods were part of a larger event that affected much of Southeast Minnesota.

Helping the Creek: Restoration Projects
A group called the Win-Cres Chapter of Trout Unlimited started a special project in 2018. Their goal was to help restore and improve Rush Creek. This project aimed to make the creek a better home for fish and other wildlife.
However, in the spring of 2019, new floods caused some damage to the restoration work. Even with challenges, efforts continue to protect and improve this important waterway.
You can even see Rush Creek if you are traveling on Interstate 90. It is visible from the Enterprise Rest Area.
