Ruthton is a small city located in Pipestone County, Minnesota, in the United States. In 2020, about 226 people lived there.

Ruthton is also home to the Cowell Wind Project, which is run by a company called Exelon Wind. This project uses wind power to create electricity.

History of Ruthton

Ruthton was first planned out in 1888. This process is called "platting," which means drawing up a map for a new town. The city was named after the wife of one of the people who helped start the town. A post office opened in Ruthton in the same year, 1888. Later, in 1897, Ruthton officially became an incorporated city. This means it gained its own local government.

Geography and Location

Ruthton covers a total area of about 1.51 square kilometers (0.58 square miles). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny part being water.

The Redwood River flows through the city. Near its start, the river is sometimes dry, meaning it doesn't always have water flowing in it.

Minnesota State Highway 23 is an important road that goes through Ruthton. It helps connect the community to other places.
