Ryan Christie's Football Journey
Starting at Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Ryan Christie was born in Inverness, Scotland, in 1995. His dad, Charlie Christie, was also a footballer. Charlie played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Ryan joined the Inverness Caledonian Thistle youth team when he was 10. He signed his first professional contract in 2011. He was one of many young players to join the club's main team.
Ryan played his first game in the Scottish Premiership on 29 December 2013. It was against Celtic. He also played in the Scottish League Cup Final. Inverness lost that game on penalties. Ryan helped his team finish in the top six of the league.
He scored his first goal for Inverness on 1 April 2014. It was in a 2–1 loss against Motherwell. He scored two more goals that season. After playing well, Ryan signed a new contract.
In the 2014–15 season, Ryan scored his first goal against Hamilton Academical. He won the SPFL Young Player of the Month award for August. This was because of his great games against several teams.
In October 2014, he was sent off for the first time. This happened during a match against St Mirren. He won the SPFL Young Player of the Month award again in February 2015. His good form led to him being nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. He didn't win that one, but he did win the SFWA Young Player of the Year award.
Ryan started in the 2015 Scottish Cup Final. His team won 2–1 against Falkirk. He said winning the Scottish Cup was "unbelievable."
Playing for Celtic
Joining Celtic and Loans
On 1 September 2015, Ryan joined Celtic on a four-year deal. After signing, he was immediately sent back to Inverness on loan. This loan was for the whole season. He got a knee injury in November. Celtic then called him back to work with their medical team.
Ryan made his first appearance for Celtic on 23 January 2016. It was in a 3–1 win against St Johnstone.
On 24 January 2017, Ryan went on loan to Aberdeen. He stayed there until the end of the season. He scored his first goal for Aberdeen on 4 February 2017. This was in a 2–0 win against Partick Thistle. He helped Aberdeen finish second in the league. They also reached the 2017 Scottish Cup Final. However, he couldn't play in the final because it was against his main club, Celtic.
Ryan returned to Aberdeen on loan for most of the 2017–18 season. This move happened in June 2017.
Success at Celtic
Ryan came back to Celtic for the 2018–19 season. He played a big part in the League Cup semi-final against Hearts. He helped create all three goals in their 3–0 win. Ryan signed a new contract with Celtic in November 2018.
On 2 December, he scored the only goal in the 2018 Scottish League Cup Final. This goal helped Celtic win the cup against his old loan club, Aberdeen. His season ended early on 14 April 2019. This was during the Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen. He got facial injuries after a collision with an opponent.
Winning More Trophies
Ryan scored three goals in a 7–0 win against St Johnstone. This was the first game of the 2019–20 Scottish Premiership season. In October 2020, he scored the first goal in the 2019–20 Scottish Cup semi-final. Celtic won that game 2–0.
In the final against Hearts, he scored a similar goal. It was the first goal of the match. The game ended in a 3–3 draw after extra time. Celtic won the trophy after a penalty shootout. Ryan was the only Celtic player to miss his penalty, but they still won.
