Team History and Achievements
Rögle BK started on December 18, 1932. It was first a bandy club, which is why "Bandyklubb" (bandy club) is in its name. Bandy is a sport similar to ice hockey, played on a large ice field. The club even won the Scania district championship in bandy in 1948.
Early Ice Hockey Years
The club's ice hockey team played in Sweden's top league, then called Division I, from 1966 to 1969. They returned to the top league, by then known as Elitserien, between 1992 and 1996. After spending twelve more years in the second-tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan, Rögle BK earned a spot back in Elitserien in 2008.
Return to the Top League
In the 2008–09 season, Rögle BK started surprisingly well. They were near the top of the standings for a while. However, they finished 11th that season. This meant they had to play in a special playoff round called Kvalserien to stay in Elitserien. They succeeded and remained in the top league.
In the 2009–10 season, Rögle finished last in the standings. They had to play in the Kvalserien again. This time, they did not manage to stay in Elitserien and were moved back down to HockeyAllsvenskan.
Rögle made another brief return to Elitserien after the 2012 Kvalserien. They were the first team to get into Elitserien by winning the HockeyAllsvenskan playoff round. However, their return only lasted one season. After finishing last in the 2012–13 Elitserien season, they were relegated back to HockeyAllsvenskan.
Winning the Champions Hockey League
The 2021–22 season was a very special one for Rögle BK. The team won the 2021–22 Champions Hockey League. They beat Tappara from Finland with a score of 2–1 in the final game. This exciting match took place in Ängelholm on March 1, 2022.
New Women's Team
On December 14, 2022, Rögle BK announced exciting news. They planned to start a women's ice hockey team for the 2023–24 season. This new team began by playing in the WDHL.
