Club Career Highlights
Starting at Nice
Saïd Benrahma is a winger, which means he plays on the sides of the field. He began his youth football journey in Algeria with NRB Bethioua. Then, he moved to France and joined clubs like Balma and Colomiers. In 2013, he joined Ligue 1 club Nice.
He played his first professional game in the 2013–14 season. However, he mostly played for Nice's reserve team. For the reserve team, he played 37 games and scored 11 goals between 2013 and 2016. He scored one goal in three games for the main team in 2014–15 and two more in 2015–16.
Later in his time at Nice, Saïd had some ankle injuries. He also spent time playing for other clubs on loan. These clubs included Angers, Gazélec, and Châteauroux. He left Nice in July 2018, having played 18 games and scored three goals for the main team.
Time at Brentford
On 6 July 2018, Saïd moved to England to join Championship club Brentford. He signed a four-year contract. He scored his first goal for Brentford in his third game, helping them win 4–2 against Southend United in the EFL Cup.
In September, he received his first red card while playing for Brentford. After recovering from an injury in December, Saïd started playing regularly. He scored nine goals in 14 league games by mid-January 2019. He was even nominated for the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award. One of his three goals in a 5–1 win against Hull City was chosen as the Championship Goal of the Month. An ankle injury ended his season early in April 2019. He finished with 45 games played and 11 goals scored.
Saïd missed the start of the 2019–20 season due to transfer rumors. However, he returned to play in August 2019. During this season, he was voted Brentford Supporters' Player of the Year. He was also named in the Championship PFA Team of the Year. He played 46 games and scored 17 goals, including two hat-tricks. His great performances helped Brentford reach the 2020 Championship play-off final. He won the PFA Fans' Player of the Month in January 2020 and the Championship Player of the Month in July 2020.
At the start of the 2020–21 season, there was more talk about him moving to another club. He made his first appearance as a substitute in September 2020. He then started the next game against Fulham in the EFL Cup. His performance and a great goal in their 3–0 win earned him the man of the match award.
Playing for West Ham United
On 16 October 2020, Saïd joined Premier League club West Ham United on a loan deal. The plan was to make the move permanent later. He made his debut on 31 October as a substitute in a game against Liverpool. He started his first game for West Ham on 11 December in a 2–1 win over Leeds United.
On 29 January 2021, West Ham made his transfer permanent. They paid £25 million, plus extra money based on his performance. This made him one of West Ham's most expensive players. On 15 May 2021, Saïd scored his first goal for West Ham in a 1–1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.
On 6 November 2022, he scored a goal against Crystal Palace. This goal was measured as the most powerful Premier League goal of the season, traveling at about 107.17 kilometers per hour. On 7 June 2023, during the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final, Saïd scored West Ham's first goal from a penalty kick. West Ham won the game 2–1 against Fiorentina, winning their first major trophy in 43 years!
On 1 February 2024, West Ham agreed to transfer Saïd to Ligue 1 club Lyon. The deal faced some issues at first because of paperwork. However, after an appeal to FIFA, the transfer was officially announced the next day.
Moving to Lyon
On 2 February 2024, Saïd joined Lyon on loan until the end of the season. Lyon paid £5.1 million for the loan. They also had an option to buy him permanently for €14 million. In June 2024, Lyon used this option and signed him permanently for €14 million.
Joining Neom SC
On 31 January 2025, Saïd Benrahma joined Neom SC on loan until the end of the season. Neom SC is a club in the second-tier Saudi First Division League. The loan deal includes an option for Neom SC to buy him for €12 million if they get promoted to the Saudi Pro League.
International Career
In September 2015, Saïd was called up to play for the Algeria national team. He made his debut on 13 October 2015 in a game against Senegal. He came on as a substitute in their 1–0 victory.
He was called up again a month later for World Cup qualifiers but did not play. His good performance at Brentford in 2018–19 led to another call-up for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He earned his second international cap in a 1–0 win over Tunisia on 26 March 2019. He was chosen for Algeria's team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but had to leave due to an injury.
Saïd scored his first international goal on 12 November 2021. It was in a 4–0 win against Djibouti during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He was also part of Algeria's team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
