Sam & Cat is a fun American TV show made for teens. It was created by Dan Schneider and shown on Nickelodeon from June 8, 2013, to July 17, 2014. This show is a spin-off from two other popular TV series, iCarly and Victorious, which Dan Schneider also created.

The series stars Jennette McCurdy as Sam Puckett, a character from iCarly. It also features Ariana Grande as Cat Valentine, a character from Victorious. In the show, Sam and Cat meet by chance during a wild adventure. They quickly become roommates and decide to start a babysitting business. This business helps them earn extra money and leads them into many funny and exciting situations.

The show was first announced in August 2012. Nickelodeon decided to make a full series in November of that year. Filming for the first 20 episodes began in January 2013. Because the show was so popular, Nickelodeon ordered 20 more episodes in July 2013, making a total of 40 episodes for the first season. However, only 35 episodes aired. The show ended on July 17, 2014.

What Is the Story About?

After her best friend Carly Shay moved to Italy, Sam Puckett traveled around the West Coast on her motorcycle. She stopped in Venice, Los Angeles. There, she saw Cat Valentine being thrown into a garbage truck and quickly saved her. They became friends, and Cat convinced Sam to be her roommate. This happened after Cat's cheerful grandmother, Nona, moved to a retirement home called Elderly Acres.

To earn money, Sam and Cat started a babysitting business. They called it "Sam and Cat's Super Rockin' Fun Time Babysitting Service." This business led them into many wacky and funny adventures. Besides Nona, other important people in their lives include Dice, their neighbor. Dice is known for helping people for money. There's also Goomer, a kind but not-so-smart professional MMA fighter whom Dice manages.

Meet the Main Characters

  • Sam Puckett (played by Jennette McCurdy): Sam is a tomboy who loves pranks and doesn't like working much. She is very strong and brave. After her friend Carly moved away, Sam traveled on her motorcycle until she saved Cat. Sam secretly has a kind heart, especially for Cat. She is always ready to fight or boss her way out of any problem.
  • Cat Valentine (played by Ariana Grande): Cat is sweet, innocent, and almost always happy. She is playful and sometimes takes things too literally. She might faint when she gets scared. Cat has a short attention span and used to dye her hair bright red to look like a red velvet cupcake. She lived with her grandmother Nona because her parents were visiting her brother. Cat can be emotional, but she is also very smart and caring.
  • Dice (played by Cameron Ocasio): Dice is Sam and Cat's neighbor. He is known for being very resourceful and helping people, often for a fee.
  • Nona (played by Maree Cheatham): Nona is Cat's cheerful and supportive grandmother. She loves to have fun and is young at heart. Nona moved to Elderly Acres to be closer to her friends. She is always there for Sam and Cat when they need her.

Other Fun Characters

How the Show Was Made

In August 2012, Nickelodeon announced that Dan Schneider, who created iCarly and Victorious, would make a new show called Sam & Cat. It would star Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande as their characters starting a babysitting business. Nickelodeon ordered a pilot episode. Then, in November, they decided to make 20 full episodes, planning to premiere the show in 2013.

Filming for the show began in January 2013. Sam & Cat first aired in the United States on June 8, 2013. Because the show was so popular, Nickelodeon ordered 20 more episodes on July 11, making the first season 40 episodes long. Filming continued in September 2013 to finish the rest of the season.

The show's stars, Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande, announced on Twitter in April 2013 that the show would premiere in June.
