Sanborn's Location and Rivers
Sanborn covers a total area of about 2.13 square miles (5.50 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 2.08 square miles (5.37 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.05 square miles (0.14 square kilometers), is water.
The Cottonwood River flows right through the city. This river is a natural feature of the area.
Highways Near Sanborn
Two important roads are close to Sanborn. U.S. Highway 71 runs along the eastern edge of the city. It is just a short distance south of where it meets U.S. Highway 14. These highways help people travel to and from Sanborn.
Sanborn's History
Sanborn was first planned out in 1881. It officially became a city on November 17, 1891. The city was named after Sherburn Sanborn. He was an important officer for many years at the Chicago and Northwestern railway company.
The Sanborn post office was opened on May 17, 1880. This helped people send and receive mail in the growing community.
