The Santa Margarita Mountains are a cool mountain range in sunny California. They are part of a bigger group of mountains called the Santa Ana Mountains. These mountains are also part of an even larger system known as the Peninsular Ranges.

You can find the Santa Margarita Mountains in the coastal area of San Diego County. This region is often called North County.

About the Santa Margarita Mountains

The Santa Margarita Mountains are surrounded by natural features. To the northwest, you'll find San Mateo Creek. On the northeast side, there's Teneja Canyon Creek.

Where Are They Located?

To the east, the mountains are bordered by De Luz Creek. On the south, they meet Las Pulgas Canyon. As you go southwest, the mountains gently slope down. They lead into the coastal foothills of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Highest Point

The tallest spot in the Santa Margarita Mountains is Margarita Peak. This peak reaches an elevation of 3,136 feet (956 meters). Another important point in the northern part of the range is Margarita Lookout. It offers great views of the area.
