How Sargeant Started
Sargeant officially began in 1894. This happened after the railroad tracks were built and reached this area. When a town is "platted," it means its streets and land lots are carefully mapped out.
Where is Sargeant?
Sargeant is in the northern part of Mower County. It is surrounded by Sargeant Township on three sides: north, east, and south. To the west, it borders Waltham Township.
The city is about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Dexter by road. It is also about 19 miles (31 km) northeast of Austin, which is the main city in Mower County.
Land and Water
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sargeant covers a total area of 0.80 square miles (2.07 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
The city sits on a low ridge. Water from the west side of this ridge flows into Roberts Creek. This creek then joins the Cedar River. Water from the east side of the ridge flows into the North Branch of the Root River. The Root River eventually flows east into the mighty Mississippi River.
